BBC NEWS | Europe | Finnish college gunman kills 10

What's with Finland having these school shootings? It happened last year too. Sad day, hope you Finnish members are safe.

On a side note, I like how it's main story on BBC, but it took me a few minutes to find it on CNN, bias bs.

I was rather shocked when I heard it from the radio.

Quite a screw up for the police to question him on Monday for the YouTube videos but not take away his gun license. But on the other hand, what could they have done, just a guy shooting with a gun in a video?

Anyway the gun laws should be strictened, no semiautomatic pistols for sport shooters because they don't need one. Walther P22 isn't exactly the choice for a starting sports club shooter. At Olympics and all official competitions they only use a clipless 1-bullet sports .22 pistol, while Walther P22 just resembles the "cool" Walther P99. Obvious choice for a sportsman

I believe the video didnt show anything else than him shooting at the range. His weapon was legal and its legal to go and shoot at the shooting range. So the policeman had nothing to arrest him, afaik.

A very sad day indeed. My thoughts go out to all concerned, victims and families. Why this is the second time this tragedy occurs in Finland is beyond me but I'm afraid it may very well happen again and it is also my belief that it's just a matter of time before it happens in my country, Finnish neighbour Sweden.

One thing I found amusing when reading the articles regarding this in the Swedish newspapers was the mention of the earlier incident in Jokela last year. Apparently the murderer in that incident thought himself an "├ťbermensch" or superhuman. Since video games always gets blamed after tragedies like this one and voices are heard demanding banning of violent games maybe this time they'll censor "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" and ban all of Nietzsche┬┤s works?

Yes but it happened twice in a year...

Why the police met him yesterday because of the YouTube video, then let him go without a psychologist interview?

Well all I have to say is "it sucks".

Stricter gun laws could probably aid to some extend but you are never going to stop a complete idiot (as in a person that seems stable but turns out to be a total nut job).

As for the guy being released... in hint side it's easy to say "epic phail" but I say they didn't see this comming. If they would pickup and question every person with a gun and videotaping themselves or making this public via other ways) and forcing phycholigist research and such on them would be bound to collide with some freedoms and several harmless gun owners feeling opressed by authorities poking their nose into their lifes. You can't always get something right regardless of the road you take and some people will always feel victemized or opressed while others get to exploit or abuse.

Except its only now starting to wane (the sun that is). Sad day indeed. The guy could have used a muzzle loader and still done this much damage. Who is expecting to get shot today? Yes we know, spare the "If everyone had one" argument. This board has seen its fair share of that one!!! Question though... I was reading that he had a temporary gun permit. What the hell is that?
