Are the pop ups in Internet explorer windows? I had this some time ago, I fixed it by deleting everything in Internet Explorer's (yes, not firefox's!) "allow cookies from these sites" -field (I don't know what it is called in english IE)

quide8hy.jpg Maybe this image will help. 1. "tools" 2. "data security" 3. "sites" (again, not sure what they are called in english IE)

Assuming you have your Firefox options set to block, it very well may be that you've run into the new generation of pop-ups which can not yet be blocked by the current technology.

Stiner, use Spybot Search & Destroy,it blocks ads ect. Very easy to use, free, and also protection included! http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html I use Firefox also, together with this program it runs great. My last advice, save your Firefox Bookmarks regularly.

You may also have caught something. I'd run:

-Spybot S&D -ClamWin -AdAware (from Lavasoft) -Avast! or a similar good commercial AV scanner just to have a look.

Also, in Firefox you've actually blocked popups, right? Edit->Preferences->Privacy & Security->Popup Windows

Lastly, if that doesn't work, I recommend you download something called Privoxy (google ftw.)

If you want, pm me and I'll see if I can give you a hand killing shit.

@jumjum: There are no popups that cannot be blocked. None. Some might be a bit more involved for non-technical users, but unless you've actually caught something local (spyware, trojan, etc.), you should be able to catch anything.

What I was referring to was, IIRC, described as "a pop-up that's not a pop-up" but appears and acts like a pop-up. I don't know recall how it's different, just that it's a new tech of the ad whores.
