Flags was ok but I didnt like how it was all told in various flash backs and such. Seemed messy.

I cant wait for Letters though, looks amazing!

I saw Flags of our Fathers and personally I didn't think it was a bad film. But it seemed a but too typical in that Clint Eastwood didn't show any special talents as a director in my opinion. Of course the actual storyline was pretty good being that it was taken from a well written book but they did mix up it up a bit (the movie has the story completely told in flash back and goes back and fourth through various events while the book from what I understand, is told in chronological order).

I'd say if you are looking for an outstanding movie, this might disappoint you. But if you want to see a movie sometime just to see one, this movie is a good choice.

I wanted to see it over Thanksgiving break, but all the theaters had already stopped showing it. The other one looks interesting though.

Thanks for the Flags review, at least now I'm not setting my hopes up too high for it.

Also, is the Japanese movie gonna have only subtitles and all audio in Japanese, cuz I hate those.

It is going to be in Japanese with subtitles, which for one i'm GLAD that they didn't have it in English with cheesy Japanese accents, I HATE when they do that, really detracts from the atmosphere. I thought Flags was pretty good, not perfect, but good, the constant flashbacks were abit annoying and you were never able to really attach to any of the characters imo. However, Letters is said to be the far superior of the two films, i'll have to go see it for myself to see if I agree with that statement

I'd rather have the accents than dubbing though! haha.

I'm also really glad its subtitled.

why is it that every movie that has a powerful japanese man, it is always played by Ken Watanabe? im not saying he's a bad actor, quite the oposite, its just that he is overused.

PS this is how you're supposed to release movie trilogies, not this "lets wait a year to build up demand" crap.

Subtitles? Well of course a foreign film has subtitles, unless its an animation which are (sometimes) dubbed ;)

What I didn't realize is that both these films are by Clint, I heard about upcoming Letters from Iwo Jima some months ago, and saw an ad about Flags of Our Fathers just two weeks ago (btw Flippy, Finnkino shows Flags already). Never saw these two as connected, though, only now I realised they are both from Iwo Jima. So I guess I should just go and see Flags when I have the time and Letters when it arrives. Or buy bought as DVDs and watch them both at the same time :uhoh:...

imdb.com Trivia: "Although they were filmed back to back, none of the cast from this film appears in Flags of Our Fathers, and visa versa. None of the cast members even met each other from each film."
