IMO this forum has slipped. Certainly in the Off Topic, but even in General Discussion as well. It's just not as, well, good. Meaning smart, interesting, witty, emotional, whatever it is that makes people want to read and write in it. The quality of subjects addressed, the level of discourse, even the humor is just not what it was a year ago, and certainly not what it was two years ago. Outside of a good handful of dependable long-time contributors who feel a duty to keep things interesting (you know who you are), we're seeing posts mainly from very new members - who often plow very well-tilled fields. But thank goodness for that or we'd have very few posts indeed.

I realize it never was supposed to be a place for C-SPAN Booknotes or the BBC World Service. And we're sort of in limbo (or purgatory maybe) now since 0.7 was released a full 2 years ago and people have pretty much run out of things to say about it. That's understandable and Gen Dis will probably explode with topics and posters when FH2 debuts.

But good ol' Off Top, where imagination can run free, is tired. I know I am. It's not a current events forum, but we used to have at least a little discussion of what was happening in the real world. Even politics (although I do not want to bring back the vitriolic days of political flaming) was discussed, or historical "what ifs", which generated threads which meandered all over the place. We used to discuss books, movies, music, food, drink - even if a lot of times it was just in lists. Many of our dependable and bright posters have faded away - school, military service, work and family have all, understandably, taken a toll. But that doesn't account for most of the missing handles.

Maybe it's just a matter of lessened traffic and interest because of boredom, and perhaps the ennui will disappear when FH2 rolls out. Maybe.

So what do you think. Am I wrong about there being a drop off in quality? Am I just looking nostalgically backward through rose-colored glasses? If there is a drop-off, will the forum bounce back?

Oh stop with that already Moose!!! That was the best post in a week!!! You know you laughed when you saw the punch line!!! Anyways, Fuzz is gone, zuiquan left. Yoss is still putting out his usual hilarity. JohnWalker may have been a flash in the pan, but he's funny. I think he came in around the time of Coca Cola who I havent seen in awhile. I rarely check anything other then Off-Topic at this point because as jum said, no-news updates... last FH release is 2 years old. There really isnt anything left to talk about other then hanging out with fellow FHers enjoyin the FH lifestyle! I have hardly seen our mascot foodmaniac and gaunty left for the navy or whatever and he must have went to war or something!!! Ive even givin up on the i pwn you thread!!! I used to love that thing, but Ive seen it go from sniper to shovel to nuclear bomb one two many times. I say we are the bored faithfull. Everytimne a new release hit, there would be a huge flurry of posts. I expect the same when FH2 gets the nod. Hang in there fellas.

I know it's always shot down, but an idea is an idea.

How about taking a look at the main forum's General Discussion forums from time to time? I love the community in the Forgotten Hope forums, but you never know who you might meet. Heck, you might even attract some new long term FH members... :p

I don't know about you people, but the Spam forum can be a huge amount of fun. Some of the threads can be completely out there at times.

You're just experiencing boredom, topics get old after a while. Take a step into other forums ( =p ) or lay down for a while and everything should be alright. We will take care of you, just trust us

If you use the NHS, you will definately not find a sexy nurse... you may find an immigrant who has blood over his hands and infects you with MRSA. Of course this is the best case scenario. I meant worst. Ahem.

Anyway, I look at the GD forums a bit and the funny posts have slowly fallen away into the deep black hole of page 6, leaving us with inferior quality threads. I seem to remember one post I think jumjum said a while ago, about how to castrate a horse. It certainly achieved it's purpose of scaring me and making me laugh. So I think we need more thread's on horses, and we will all be OK.

Well I just posted a thread about some action movies that some of you might find interesting. I do agree however that the forums of late seem to be in a slump of sorts.

Jum I have to agree, but let me postulate a different opinion.

Much like the Dirty Liberal (politics) Myth of Global Warming (current events), this problem can be explained away as a simple cycle of the forum. It's easy to say that something is rotten in the state of Filefront (literature), and that, to paraphrase Bakunin and Nechaev (intellectual history), need to be destroyed and rebuilt. May I suggest, jum, a break from the forums. Go out, rent La Dolce Vita (movies), turn on some jazz-fusioncore (music), and cook up a nice porterhouse (food), and pour yourself a nice glass of a '67 rouge (drink)

How's that for raising the level of discourse?
