What can I say? Fools and bitter idiots they were/are... Sad thing is that we had that kind of people around where I am, they called themselves the black jackets wore the swastika and worshipped hitler during the war, until some of them got hung up... Great fellow quebecquers, glad to know not many people know about them...

The majority of those who fought in the SS Charlemagne were nothing short of traitors. Not only did they fight against their own countrymen (French Army in Allies), fight under what should have been their enemy, and denounce the principles of liberty that France is supposed to stand for, but most of them had the nerve to defend Berlin to the death rather than giving up the hopeless battle. There really is no reason to defend them from anything. The SS Charlemagne is remembered as nothing more than a small group of traitors, much like the Milice. They weren't the only small group of terrorists either; there were SS troops from all over: Norway, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Britain.... the list goes on. Treason. That's what it all was.

I just hope that at one point (I'll have to research into this) the Normandie-Niemen (Free French airforce that fought on the Eastern Front under the Soviets) regiment got the chance to bomb the daylights out of these Charlemagne troops.

Well, Johann├Ęs.

I dunno about the French Waffen-SS volunters, but most Norwegians joining the Waffen-SS joined because they wanted to fight communism, and werent even Nazis. Somehow, I can see their reason, afterall, Norwegians gained much more from Nazism than Communism.

Not that I support their decisions...

treason for some; finding home for others. two egded thing :) besides, since france and germany have been enemies for so long and they've changed areas/provinces for so many times that i don't even wonder "how could some betray their own country."

these things are never black and white. You don't know the reasons behind their choices so you shouldn't say anything about them.
