Looks really really bad. My buddy is from the D.R., he was on the phone the whole time. Although, his family is completely on the other side of the island, east coast. Still, he had to find them before he could go home for the day. Today's first look at Haiti is revealing complete devastation. Basically Port-au-Prince is gone.

I wonder if the Haiti earthquake was a result of the 6+ earthquake that struck Eureka, California a few days ago.

True, but its possible a relief of stress in one area could have increased stress on another.

Its a matter of time before California is devastated by one. It's happened many times before, and the San Andreas Fault-line is due for a new one.

That said, they'll be better prepared than Haiti. Haiti isnt a developed nation. It cant beuild durable bildings and it cant puts its resources in the most appropriate places fast enough - as far as I've heard.

San Fran one will be bigger I beleive. The big hundred year quake in san fran was due two years ago I think. The more pressure that builds up, the greater the quake will be. The fault will slip and it will devestate san fran.

Now with haiti. It is so sad because it is such a poor nation, lacking worthwhile government. And now with a quake, they don't even have a governmental building. I have no idea what the country can do!

They also don't have a very good infrastructure, so that will cause problems with any rescue attempts.
