I bet you didnt know this, but aside from being a kick ass presence in these hallowed halls Im also a pretty good drummer. Ive been playing since 1987, been in several bands, lots of fun, but through everything in my life the one thing I keep coming back to is playing me drums ('cept lately because Ive been bouncing around apartments/condos and such). So I was tooling around youtube when I came across the most amazing thing. Im literally taken aback. There is a new drum out there, very unique. a really interesting melodic "drum" loosely based on a combination of a conga/Jamaican steel drum called a "hang" drum. Its basically 2 thinned out steel drum basins, sandwiched and tuned a bit differently. It was invented in 2000 in Switzerland. There are a couple of companies that are going to be making similar variations, but as of right now you have to write a letter to a company and convince them you are worthy, maybe they'll sell one to you!!! Make no mistake, like other fine tuned musical instruments its quite pricey. About $2,000-3,000. Keeping things into perspective, my set when new with everything was probably somewhere around $5,500. If I werent house hunting right now, I would be working on my hang drum application!!! You Europeans may have seen these before, but until last week I had never even heard of one, now... want!!!! I was actually looking at circular breathing techniques for screwing around with a didgeridoo I made awhile back when I came across this. Check this out guys, absolutely a new level in drumming. Holy shit that's wild.
Being a guy thats not a huge fan of music I have to say that was freaking awesome! Never really been moved by a drum solo but that was great.....
It almost has a piano type sound. LOVE IT
I didn't make it!
So pretty. Like a steel drum, but you can use your hands. It sounds better too.
Coo. Sounds almost space agey.
John Bonham, prepare to be reintered! J/k! Impressive, nonetheless.
I myself lack any musical ability, partially b/c I never gave it the effort I gave little league baseball, wrestling, nor history.
However, I will say, today's music is utter shit. After the alternative rock of 1996, I gave up. Nowadays, I just look to the past.
