That's right, folks. Today we celebrate the FIRST European to discover America: Leif "Butterfingers" Erikson, who found the new world then lost it. He landed in the new world in 1000 AD, a full 492 years before any other (not counting the people that were already there). So celebrate the spirit of exploration, not that fascist Columbus who enslaved countless souls and plundered countless treasures. front.jpg

i believe the word "Viking" comes from some scandanavian version of the word "Pirate". so he was not a viking, but a scandanavian explorer, like his father, Erik the Red (who discovered Greenland and Iceland).

'[130pz.Kading;3969445']i believe the word "Viking" comes from some scandanavian version of the word "Pirate". so he was not a viking, but a scandanavian explorer, like his father, Erik the Red (who discovered Greenland and Iceland).

To my knowledge, no one knows the true understanding of the word. The "pirate" version is off course the most common, but some people also think it is simply derived from a gathering point called "Vig" where they met when they set out to where ever they were going. Vikings also traded, explored and colonized in most of Europe, in a more peacefull way, than we traditionally think of them today.
