Yeah, It's like a sequel to Flags of our fathers, except the Japanese side.

Otoko Tachi No Yamato is a nice movie, not all action, but u do get a good view of the Yamamoto and his crew. Definetly one to watch. Another tip I have :Tuntematon Sotilas (1955) Nice movie about the Finn war around 1941,loadsa Finn humor, and action. Loved this movie. Anyone here seen the 1985 remake?

Right. So I received the movie, Yamato on DVD just few hours ago and I just finished watching it. I found the film excellent. Very good in fact. But I will not go into further details of events of the film as I do not want to spoil it.

It was quite peaceful for the most of the film, but the battle scenes seemed pretty gory at moments when sharpnel shreds people apart all around the deck. The battle scenes were nicely done and the whole story seemed to work a OK. It did feel very sad and the movie made me appreciate the efforts that other countries aside USA they have put to make such spectacular films.

Everyone remembers how remarkable Der Untergang was. And those few who has seen the greatness of the film The Winter War and I'd say all those who enjoyed the story of Easy Company in The Band of Brothers would most likely like this film aswell. It is very unique and differs from the mainstream (which I myself think, the mainstream is mainly yanks with hollywood magazines in their thompsons) and feels very fresh after all the decent or bad war movies I have seen.

Yamato is a masterpiece in my opinion and I think every self-respecting WW2 movie buff like myself should have this movie in their collection. This one belongs into the group of BoB, Stalingrad, Der Untergang and many more unique films.

I would give Yamato 4 out of 5 stars.

Now, lets see what comes with Letters from Iwo Jima. :)
