I don't remember where it was but in some topic there was a little chat about this polish heavy cavalry here i've found something interesting :)

For over a century, the Husaria were the lords of the battlefield, delivering the decisive blow in many an important engagement; at Kircholm (1605) 4,000 Poles accounted for 14,000 Swedes, at Klushino (1610) 6,000 Poles (of only 200 were infantry) defeated 30,000 Muscovite and 5,000 German and Scottish mercenaries, at Gniew (1656) 5,500 Polish cavalry defeated 13,000 Swedes and outside Vienna (1683) the Husaria saved Europe from the, until then, unstoppable might of the Ottoman Empire. (yes i know! someone will say,OMG another Poland saved the world thread ;) what can I do,i can't change it.)-btw it's about HUSARIA not saving the world by Poland.

first some historical paintings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCEaCIHDlhg

and NOW EVERYONE!!!!! HUSARIA IN ACTION!!!!!!

http://video.google.pl/videoplay?docid=4633964924380928782 (there's even music from LOTR:The Return of The King, but it fits well :),and if You want i can try to translate all the writings that appear between the chapters )

the Husaria saved Europe from the, until then, unstoppable might of the Ottoman Empire.

I know someone is going to say ''ZOMGZ just don't read the thread if you don't like it!!!'', but I can't let something like this pass by unnoticed. As a disclaimer, I want to say beforehand : The Hussars might have saved Vienna, they fought well and were a terrorizing force for whoever faced them. I also find the subject of ancient warfare, particularily of this period, interesting. So I have nothing agaisnt this thread or Hussars. Now, what catches my attention here is the ''Husaria saved Europe'' part. How can anyone assume that? Last I heard, Austria isn't Europe. Following an hypothetic defeat of the Hussars at Vienna, the Ottomans would have needed to take the city, something that isn't certain they could have achieved. If they succeeded in capturing Vienna, they would have needed to defeat the gazillions of armed to the teeths German states. If they were to succeed in this risky endeavour, they would have needed to defeat Louis XIV's France (watever the ignorant France bashers will say, France was definitively the No.1 military power at the time). After a seemingly impossible and highly surprising victory over France (located thousands of kilometers from Constantinople, meaning the Ottoman supply lines would be ridiculously stretched thin considering the means of transportation at the time), the Turks would still have to defeat the Italian city states, Spain and certainly England. Notice the very high number of ''Ifs'' in the last paragraph. Can anyone tell me how the Ottomans could manage to do such a thing? This was a time of defensive warfare, and highly fortified central Europe would have been a very hard nut to crack for an invasion. Had Vienna fallen, another nation would have stopped them. No single man or nation ever saved Europe, Asia, Africa or the World. A continent or country is a result of thousands of years of evolution and destruction, negative events have unforeseen impacts in the future, and we can't say for certain wether an Ottoman success, for example, would have been a bad or good thing. The Romans were probably certain that the fall of Rome would put an end to civilization, yet when we look around us today, this is obviously wrong. Europe can't be ''saved'' (unless someone finds a way to actually make it disapear in a non-figurative way), any sudden and radical socio-political modifications would simply change what Europe is. I don't mean to take credit away from the Hussars, I just find it ridiculously high fetched to say that they ''saved Europe''. I also find the ''saved Europe'' idea funny. Had the Ottomans conquered Europe, somehow, we would be here today praising Allah that the Ottomans were here to liberate us from Christian ''decadency''. ;)

Probably because it's based on the pre- Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ( Rzeczpospolita ) era?

Yeah, I think those are the Hungarian Hussars. The Hussars as we know them are from 1600s - first they had only a one small wing on the back, and then they got double wings. AFAIK Medieval:TW 2 is pre 1500 (hence the name), so no winged hussars there, sorry :(

If you want Hussars in MTW II here's upcoming mod that'll focus on new ages (1500-1700) http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=165

And here's the "Ogniem i Mieczem" mod about 17th centure central Europe and Cossac wars - just look at the quallity of their work :o http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=46577

@Komrad: rember, take these threads with grain of salt ;)
