Is the Golden age of modding (battlefield Series wise, only include other games as a secondary example)over?
First I'd like to hear why one might consider the recent past the Golden Age lof modding.
because in the past there had been many more mods (this could be because games then might have easier to modify and there was more of a buzz or just that it was out for a long while,im not sure) than there have been recently. In the days of bf1942 there were many mods both major and minor that came out or were proposed.in recent years the numbers have dwindled for the battlefield games and the more major mods are really only the ones that are on their way both in completeness and quality.Though this could change as the bf games have been out longer
Second, has modding declined in recent years? I'd say that mods are getting better than ever, especially with the Source engine and the release of Red Orchestra as a full-fledged game.
^yes but only the big mods are really going any where.when bf 1942 was around everyone had the opportunity to become one of the great mods and there were many more mods as a result.now fh2,poe2,eod2,battlestar 2142 and the first strike mod (and just a few more)are the only ones that basically are doing anything of worth, while there would have been many more to add to the list during the days of bf1942

Its quite possible that these 'major' mods saw that some of the these 'minor' mods were well put together and offered the minor mod devs a position of the major mod dev team. ;)
I do feel that the mods are getting fewer but not because its getting harder, but becasue of EA itself, look they are putting out a new game every year so little mods just give up only th big ones stay alive beasue they have the largest comunitys, thats why i think the golden ages of moding is over. this year 2142, next year soemthing, thats EA for ya.
It's just changing, but as I see it we're getting higher quality work. Also what is a fact in case of bf series, the modding possibilities are bigger than ever befroe with bf2 so it can't be that bad. Also I doubt that bf2142 will do (did?) much harm for modding scene of bf2.
Well unfortunately you can't throw together a few models, some tweaked feature and get a mod everyone wants to play anymore, games take longer to make now because they've become complex and the same goes for mods. The simple fact is major mods have to plan and coordinate like commercial games these days to survive. What does this mean? Higher quality, higher standards, and longer wait time.
And no EA isn't to blame, thousands are still playing BF2 and will continue to do so.(In the same way BF1942 survived BF:Vietnam) I really doubt many mods have jumped to BF2142 since the engine doesn't really offer that big of a difference.
^ basically all the scifi/Future mods have moved to 2142 but i agree that wont hurt modding w/ bf2 (and since bf2 and bf2142 are like apples and oranges. Both good but different)
and i do miss the days when mods were easier to make and easier to get a fan base for.oh....CLICK
