Finally after 2 years of missing this event (various reasons) I got to go... The Mid-Atlantic Air Museums's WWII Weekend!!! All I can say is wow, this was incredible, I thought it would be cool but this was an understatement. This was a renaissance festival for WWII buffs. It 1,000 voulteers, 70 aircraft and 200 vehicles. Again though, I had problems attending. I was only able to catch the afternoon of the last day. We are in the midst of a god awful heatwave and I knew these guys would be smoked after 3 days of it. I couldnt get anyone to go with me... From "It's too hot!" to "You wanna go do WHAT?!?!" I tried not to expect much and I was completely blown away. This was immersian, complete with re-enactments, radio shows, musical groups... You guys would have been in heaven. I met Buck Compton and Don Malarky!!! I didnt want them to feel like a museum piece so I saved any pictures to their public speaking. I swear, Id have no problems hanging out with rock stars but these guys made me feel like a 12 year old!!! Thes guys actually did something that mattered, you know? I want you guys to know that in lieu of a real companion, I took all of you guys along with me. Every picture I took I had you guys in mind, what you would have wanted to see. I'm not going to post them up in the forum, way too many, about 180 or so, what I could get before my fully charged battery died. So please dl them HERE and lets discuss. No need to define each and everyone of them, I dont have the encyclopedic knowledge that most of you have. But I'll describe a few things that you'll see. First, lemme get this out of the way, While I was driving there, I saw a chick in a bikini on the roof of her house sunbathing... I had a camera right next to me and well, you know... :smokin:. Second, I really dont see the need for a guy to have a flame thrower, I just think there is so much room for error... he did blow out his pilot light... still, I wouldnt want to be anywhere near him... They were doing a re enactment of Iwo Jima. I think they need to fix that up a little bit though, Its a flag next to a couple of bails of hay!!! Also, enjoy a few weekend warriors in there with the beer bellies... trying to run around... but I let that one go too!!! Regrets... I missed the tank battles, in fact I thought there was supposed to be a Tiger there but I couldnt find one. I wish I took a picture of these two Rosie Riveters by the name of Mae Graybill and Kaye Bentley, as nice as can be in their mid eighties, in a sweltering airplane hangar, god bless them. I did find a Soviet encampment there but they were hot and pissed off, by that time, several people were just plain done with the weekend, this is a nasty few days of heat and humidity (Thanks for sending that our way jum!). When I found the British, they were starting to pack up. I read in the program that there was also a Polish Living History group there as well, I didnt see them anywhere... Anyways guys enjoy. The images are 800x600, if there is anything you want in a higer res, just let me know, Id be happy to hook any of you up.

I live about 30-40 mins from it.This was the first year I didn't go. I'd say the best part is the planes. So yes, all the WW2 bombers giving rides fly over my house, low. Sometimes I see mustangs and stuff in formation.

Pics are awesome. I just tend to ask me (I mean that one tiger pic) why 50% of all actors who play german soldiers are obese yankees.

I didnt see many fat german players, they seemed to be a younger group. But the GI's were!!! no worries, its the older guys with the money to be able to afford to do it. We need as many as we can get, Id loive to see some larger groups there. I only saw 2 japanese re-enactors and they were in pretty high demand, I saw those 2 everywhere!!! Going through again, I should have deleted a few of those pics. I couldnt see much in the lcd viewfinder, it was so bright out, I did as best as I could do, but I should have taken my g-friends camera instead. I was at the airfield portion watching the storches taking off. They used them in a skirmish on the other side doing some recon over there, tres cool. There must have been 15-20 grasshoppers at the show.
