Apparently he had a heart attack and was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Spoiler: Show

BREAKING NEWS msnbc.com staff and news service reports updated 1 hour, 6 minutes ago

Michael Jackson has died at age 50 after being rushed to UCLA Medical Center, NBC News has confirmed. Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda told the L.A. Times that Jackson was not breathing when paramedics arrived at his home and CPR was performed. TMZ.com reported that he may have suffered cardiac arrest. Jackson had been due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits included “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” had been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months. The shows for the 50 London concerts sold out within minutes of going on sale in March. His lifetime record sales tally is believed to be around 750 million, which, added to the 13 Grammy Awards he received, makes him one of the most successful entertainers of all time. He lived as a virtual recluse since his acquittal in 2005 on charges of child molestation. There were concerns about Jackson’s health in recent years but the promoters of the London shows, AEG Live, said in March that Jackson had passed a 4-1/2 hour physical examination with independent doctors. "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news," said Quincy Jones, a longtime friend of Jackson's and producer of his “Thriller” album. “For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words. ... I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Well it depends on which news source you use, some speak of a coma instead.

Regardless I guess something iis up then which may be either serious or fatal. Would be a shame if has passed away dispite being a of a weird person (I copied that from my post in the GD, sue me =p).

I dunno, it seems like most of the MSM is saying that he died of a heart attack. I haven't heard anything about a coma so far.

He came into hospital in a coma a couple of hours ago and died soon after. 50 is no age to go.

I knew we could find common ground.....

And I note this: apparently The King of Pop had his own Doctor Feelgood living at Neverland (did he share a room with the chimp?). Mikey had just gotten his "daily injection of Demerol" when he gradually went into respiratory distress and finally quit breathing. And now the doc is nowhere to be found. Video: Michael Jackson death 'linked to painkiller injection' -Times Online

What I remember about Demerol (meperidine, pethidine) is that it is a completely synthetic narcotic (strong painkiller) developed by the Germans on the eve of WWII with a view to using it as a substitute for morphine should war interfere with Germany's ability to get the opium necessary to make morphine.

Up until the 80's or so Demerol was considered superior to morphine for some types of pain control, and supposedly had less danger of addiction. Today Demerol is generally considered old-fashioned and out of date, as it does not control pain any better than morphine, and often less well; and it is also very toxic and can damage the liver after too many days' use. It should not be used more than a few days.

Demerol is also much more likely to cause delirium and hallucinations in users. (I remember several years ago after some surgery I was given Demerol, and it gave me truly bizarre, unpleasant dreams. A friend was put on it also after surgery, and he was convinced he had fleas crawling out of nose and ears.) There are so many much more effective narcotics now that I see little reason for Demerol to be used at all today. So it makes me wonder what kind of doctor Jackson had: was he a hack who was willing to give Jackson whatever drugs he wanted in return for a sweet gig?

Let me say it here first: Jackson finally got to be just like his idol, Elvis. Presley also had a Doc Feelgood, "Dr. Nick" Nichopoulos, who prescribed thousands and thousands of doses of all kinds of drugs for "The Kaing" - narcotics, tranquilizers, speed, you name it. Whatever Presley wanted, Dr. Nick gave him. Pretty much as Jackson's doc did I'm betting. George C. Nichopoulos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
