FVcking 20 games?!?! For a bodycheck?!? This league is a god-damned joke. TSN : NHL - Canada's Sports Leader= That hit was arguable.

Didn't Colby Armstrong (from Pittsburgh) smoke someone like that in the playoffs last spring?

I don't remember any suspension for it.

Edit : after watching the video clip again, 20 games is way to much. This wasn't Hunter on Turgeon. They must be trying to set a precedent.

Colby Killed Patrick Eaves. I was there, a few feet away. It wasn't really a cheapshot, as much as Sens fans will contest, Colby just makes the guys with their heads down pay.

Also, I agree with Stylie, as long as I'm interpreting it right. 20 Games for that is BS. That may not have even been worth a 5 minute penalty, but since the Senators players was injured, the New NHL (aka Communist Party) decided to make an example out of Downie. I'm not saying that hits like that should be totally legal, but 20 games? Holy hell that's insane.

Couldnt agree with you more... and to think.. a pens fan :cya:. 10 minute game misconduct, 1-5 game suspension thats what I would have liked to have seen. When you watch the hit, Mcammond did look like he still had the puck, his head was down and he got nailed. Overzealous perhaps, but anyone remember Scott Stevens? Christ he made his living from that noise. Just to prove a point let's take a little walk down memory lane... "rest of the season" equaled 23 games. Mcsorley hits Brashear with stick "rest of the season" equaled 20 games Bertuzzi ends a career and breaks a fooking neck!!! Both of these were completely away from any play and Downie gets a 20 game suspension, which by the way is the 5th longest suspension in the history of the NHL. What the hell is happening to our game?!?!

I agree with it, deliberately nailing people with the potential of injuring them, is a part of the game that needs to go. Same with fighting, another hockey aspect that needs to go. Fighting should be an automatic rest of the season suspension. And a second lifetime infraction = perm ban. I love hockey, but despise goon hockey. Imo its ruined the game and is the reason for low scoring games. To many headhunters!

Come on! Nothing is wrong with fighting when both players agree to drop gloves. Outright assaulting players of course is wrong, but the good olde 4th liner battles are always a joy =p

Fact is, hockey is an "emotional" game, theres joy, passion but also anger and hate in it. Players must be allowed to express all that. Its part of the beauty of this game, and what makes it so special and engaging to watch and play.

When fighting goes away, the cheap shots will increase. Case in point, Cheap shot from last season results in an awesome brawl this pre-season. Resulting in an arena going wild. YouTube - Rangers-Islanders brawl I do think Downie deserved a suspension, but the fifth longest suspension in the 100+ years of hockey? For that??? Youve seen the crap Darcy and Domi used to pull... Yeah its excessive. I don't like what Downie did, but 20 games...

Perhaps its longer because it was in a pre-season game? Those used to be friendly games a few years ago (obviously not the case anymore, with young guys like Downie trying to prove their worth to their organizations). Anyways, this league has been making stupid decisions ever since our good friend Gary Buttman took office.

Just did a little research, then I'll be able to move on!!! Everyone of those suspensions that were more then Downies were stick related, meaning two-handed hits eith the stick to the head and such... The NHL has just deemed Downie's hit... The worst hit in the history of its existence!!! Any fan of hockey has to get a chuckle out of that thought! Worse then Stevens on Lindros... Worse then Lindros on Dackell... Hatcher on Roenick... Anything perpetrated by the fiend Kasperitis!!! OMG I can remember a hundred worse hits, I would not remember Downie's by the middle of this season.
