Made me love FH even more. Very pretty...Great sound! Just way to spastic. Has mic support built in! However teamwork usually is just someone yelling to push one flag or another. To much carnage to get much beyond this kind of team play. Did like the deployable MG's though! HINT HINT!

I like it. Make the troops 40% slower and it would be perfect. Thats what CC in FH should be like.
I largely agree with Jeremiah. One map in particular, Donner, I think, seems to be just a single street, and it plays as a tiresome melee, a lot like Quake FreeForAll due to the number of Tks in the tight quarters. The other maps are significantly better, but they all feel cramped. Some of the visuals are quite good, and the HDR feature -- you walk into a bright area, and it duplicates your retina contracting -- is interesting. It won't detract from FH2, and from the complaints of some of the long-term Dod'ers -- a lot about weapon nerfing, shots in the face that don't kill, akin to BF2 -- some of them might make it over here if the FH Kar retains its powers.

Ugh... if my stupid hard drive hadn't crashed, I might be tempted to dl my free copy and try it right now...and that's a good thing! I thought the original DOD was shit compared to the likes of FH, but I thought it had the features that FH sorely missed, like DEPLOYABLE MG's, and integrated VoIP support. *Sigh* at least we'll get the VoIP for FH2:(
DoD source is fine imo, not much special. Ironsites are fun, but only available with the rifles... and when out you move sooo slow, and they deffinatly need new maps.
DoD just hasnt been the same for me since my favorite server shut down about 4 years ago. It was some kind of realism server with no tags... no radar (dont think it was even ingame at this point)... no observing after death... and no indication that you got a kill (even if it was your own teamate) unless, of course, you memorized your score and looked at it between shots ^_^. This made for some fun and more thought oriented gameplay. Untill a server like that comes around for DoD source I dont think Ill play it that often.
P.S. I always wondered what a FH server would be like with these same rules... I think it might boarderline utter chaos, but then again it could be pretty cool if the players had teamspeak and knew what was going on.

I played it a bit last night and to me it wasn't a drastic departure from the origional game. Yes Valve implemented AT rifles, which being an FH fan I welcome with open arms.
The game itself is just a much, much, much prettier version of the origional, which is mostly what I expected but I was hoping maybe they would tweak the maps a bit but they didn't really, everything's just prettier. Maps are narrow and cramped, but there the same alternate routes. The new daze effect is neat, but sometimes is just totally spastik so it may take some getting used to.
The game is fun, takes a bit of getting used to but if you played DoD before there's a good chance you'll be playing the source version. The big plus for DoD is the deployable MG's like the MG34/42, Browning .30 and even the BAR 1918. More maps would be a bonus, preferably some new maps that maybe opn things up a bit more.
Anyhow I'll have to play it some more to get a better feel for it. In it's current state it's not yet worth the $$ people spent on it, given there are only 4 maps but I hope in time Valve will keep updating it like they have been with CS:S.
BTW, it still won't hold a candle to FH2. :smokin:
Awsome graphics, but crap infantry movement and this is what ruins it. In BF2, infantry movement is "continuous" (if you know what i mean).
When an infantry is straffing sideways one way, he cannot instantly start moving sideways in the other direction, there is an animation of him first making the final step in one direction then starting movement in the other.
Same applies to all other type of movement. This is also the reason why i never liked CoD: unrealistic infantry movement in terms of inhuman ability to instantly change the direction of motion.
If this wasn't part of the game, DoD would be very nice.
