Thats it, I've had it. I am starting my own business and I'm charging $100 an hour. This corporate life is sucking away my mojo, one email at a time... To All Corporate Headquarters Staff: In response to popular demand, corporate office employees will be permitted to wear blue jeans on Fridays, starting this week, through September 22nd, the end of summer. Those choosing to participate are asked to contribute $2 to the Sunshine Club for each Friday they wear jeans. We trust that all those participating will use their best judgment in ensuring that their attire, including the shirts worn with the jeans, is suitable for an office environment. As a guide, the following should be avoided: - Torn, stained or ill-fitting jeans - Unconventional styles, such as baggy or low-rider jeans - Jeans with holes in them or sparkly stones / studs on them (even though they’re considered fashionable outside the office) If there are Fridays in which jeans are not permitted due to client visits scheduled to the corporate office, you will be notified. We will assess this program during the course of the summer and revisit next year whether to continue it next summer. If you have questions, feel free to contact your department manager or me.

Haha, it's taken you this long?

Independent consulting is nerve-wracking and often hungry, but if you're good, you're GOOD. I got so sick of that Dilbert sh** that I haven't done the corporate thing in 7 years now.

People like that deserve to be taken out and shot. And I sentence you to watch Office Space, you'll love it.

My girlfriend's pop worked for Kodak (bunch of rotten nogoodniks) for 15 years repairing microfilm/microfiche equipment for customers. After they laid him off 2 years before his pension, he refused to go indie and offer cheaper repair services for his (loyal) customers out of some misplaced sense of corporate loyalty. Jesus.

What can I say? The moment you find yourself in a position or environment where HR does not know their place, or where a second-rate manager is has enough time for this sort of nanomanagement, go. Don't look back, it will not get better. A company does not care about you--they're not evil, you just don't matter.

I have a couple things in the works. Im always poking around. Apparently gaining interest, so say my recruiter friends. The most immediate thing will be lateral, but much closer to where I live, bringing me less stress and less gas money holy s!!! $200 a month on that! Bigger IT department too. But very early to tell at this point.
