Hi guys, Just thought I'd add my own tread to the recent ones on upgrading for BF:2. Basically 2 computers (one's mine the other my bro's), was thinking of upgrading at least one for as little money as possible (I'm a poor student) so they can both at least play BF:2... first my comp: Athlon XP 2800+ (2.08GHz according to System Properties) 768MB DDR RAM Radeon 9200 Series 128MB - I'm kinda happy with it as it is but if there's something I can do to speed it up a bit... :) comp no. 2: Celeron 2.60GHz 512MB DDR RAM GeForce MX 440-SE 64MB - this comp's generally a lot slower than I would have thought it would be - any ideas why? It will also have to have a new graphics card to play BF:2 I think (though correct me if I'm mistaken). Any ideas? I'd like to spend less than £100 if possible... Cheers!

Add this:HIS ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR IceQ TV-Out/DVI

Its a 9800pro fitted with the rather excellent arctic cooler so you can OC the nuts off it, and as its a HIS brand it might be OC out of the box.

Its special offer this week for £93 which is a damm good buy. If you add this to your first rig your pretty much set for BF2.

It can be found here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_This_Week_Only_25.html

I'm very tempted to go for that! When do their week special offers end? If I got that one I could just off-load the 9200 onto the other computer...

The offer runs till Thursday.

Add that to the first computer and you have a PC easily capable of running BF2 and if you move the 9200 you will have another computer that will just about run BF2.

Celeron = shit Mx440 = shit Perhaps this can explain why this computer is slower than expected ;)

Just found a 9800 Pro 128MB for £81.04 on Ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=7631114414&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=47511 - apart from the cooling what's the difference between this and the OverclockersUK one? How much difference would the cooling make?

I was considering getting a 128mb 6600GT in order to play BF2, but they are about £130 at the moment. Would that 9800 card on overclockers be comparable?

The extra cooling would allow you to overclock it more, for the extra £13 its probobly worth it as it will also run cooler. I'm not a big fan of sapphire as they underclock some of there cards.

The 6600gt is quite abit faster than the 9800Pro. I would say its probobly worth the extra cash. I think the 6600gt is a fair bit faster than a 9800XT 256MB.
