Hey all, upgrading my computer and I was wondering if an upgrade in my Internet package would help in anyway with my game play.

This is what I have right now ( click on the available tabs for more info )

Vidéotron : Internet : High-Speed Internet : Features

These are my upgrade options..

1- Extreme high-speed : Vidéotron : Internet : Extreme High-Speed Internet : Features

2- Extreme high-speed plus : Vidéotron : Internet : Extreme Plus High Speed : Features

What they didn't mention in option 2 is that u are limited to 20 GB per month with a $7.95 per additionnal gigabyte compare to option one where the DL speed is HAlf (!) but you get 100 GB of combine UL and Dl with a 1.50 $ per additionnal gigabyte !!! Figure that out !?!

Someone told me that it's no use to have such a high speed internet cause if I'm on a server and someone else's speed is slower then mine that it will automatically slow me down too, is that right ??

Thank u for your time,

Jack

As long as your connection is not 56k there isn't really a big need to upgrade. IIRC, a faster internet connection will only subtly improve your gaming experience, even if it's a drastic improvement. So, no real need to improve unless you want faster downloads, quicker web page load times, etc...

So that's it ? , going from a 7 Mbps DL to 10 or 20 Mbps won't make much change at all ? Even with more demanding games like Crysis ?

Thanks DickvanDyke

How the game "runs" is normally a function of your rig, the program resides on your HD. But even a high-speed internet service is subject to the vagaries of connecting to a server that might be 1000 miles away. I recently installed a "packet sniffer" utility to see why I was getting all the in-game mini-freezes; most instructive. A typical connection to a server might have 10-12 "jumps", and in one case I checked, fully half of those steps showed really bad packet losses.

Not much to do about that except try another server.
