Very odd headline but... oh well. :uhm:
Pretty much sums it up what thoughts I got, except the part about Sweden that we would be charging such "criminal". :Puzzled:
Whats an MP? Though this is pretty old news now. More then 50% of the Dutch citizens is against charging Wilders. Claiming it's an bad thing for our freedom of speech if he gets a punishment for it. I'm personally with that. Don't share his ideas completely but neither don't want to see him in jail, bad for our nation.
MP = Member of Parliament (lid van de Tweede Kamer in Nederlands).
Ok, thanks Lightning. I was thinking of Minister-President but that would have been really odd :p
So much for freedom of speech.
Let's take south park's approach, and bury our heads in the sand if anyone does anything to offend anyone :)
The guy in the video has a point, but then again the bible is no better, anyone remember that word "anti-christ"? Its used to sum up people who do not believe, its about as bad as Infidel.
This guy makes many mistakes, but before I'll go into them I want to make one thing clear: I am against the prosecution of Geert Wilders. I disagree on almost every point with the guy, but he should have freedom of speech like the rest of us. There is one little glitch though, I'll come back to that later.
First: the man in the video (who is he anyway?) makes the same old mistake of taking properties of Arab culture and then project them on islam. It is Arab culture (and especially the autocrat states in the Middle East practicing it) which behaves warlike, not islam. It is (not in this film, but much discussed) Arab culture which oppresses women, not islam. Several other examples can be given on this mixing up.
Second: this guy calls on our fears again. Woo thee, islam is coming to get you all! Get out of here, I live among muslim people as they are my neighbours and they behave in a totally normal way. If we all let our fears to be our guide, we end up doing stupid stuff. We have seen that in the past 8 years.
Third: like Archimonde0_0 posted, the bible is no better. Both the bible and the koran are from long gone eras. People who interpret these books literally should realise that reality and morals have changed through time. The koran was written in a period of ongoing wars between different Arab warlords, thus it is logical that it calls everyone to arms regularly. The bible states things about women which were normal back then but are retarded in these days. Please, see the books in their historical context. Believe what you want, but don't take it literally.
Fourth: freedom of speech is totally relative. A guy who quoted Geert Wilders (the MP who gets prosecuted now) and replaced all words concerning islam by words concerning judaism got arrested. Because you can say these things about muslims, but you can't say them about jews. I'd draw one line: whether you CAN say it, and then you can say it about all religions/ethnicities, or you CAN'T say it and it will go for all religions/ethnicities alike.
Fifth: it is way too exaggerated to say the Dutch state is turning into a totalitarian state, allowing islam to take control. The muslims are a minority, it will stay that way until an Arab (note: an Arab) country will invade the Netherlands, the chances of which I estimate rather slim. Also, a totalitarian state has control, or at least partially control over their people. Although we have our obligatory IDs now (last time we had that it was called Ausweis, during 1940-1945), I still think our government doesn't have any large extent of control of the people.
Therefore: I am against the prosecution of Wilders, I am all for freedom of speech but let us make it equal in ALL cases and this guy can make many more movies to make me laugh, as he is so unbelievably wrong about many things.
I bet 50 bucks he has Mein Kampf, golden edition, in the desk near his bed
Agreed with slayer. Its either all or nothing. I disagree with the guy, but he shouldn't be arrested for saying things.
Lobo;4781694I bet 50 bucks he has Mein Kampf, golden edition, in the desk near his bed
He probably bought a cheap version and replaced "Jew" with "Muslim".
