Welcome to Resistance and Liberation - Home

This is a new Source mod that's just been released in it's second alpha. Its a realism WW2 mod set in Normandy, and frankly, it's probably the best infantry combat mod I've played to date. It's still in its early stages, so there are some crash bugs and not too much content yet (no MGs for example), but it's highly polished and has great gameplay. I highly recommend it

Things that are awesome:

-There are two levels of iron sights for each weapon: A "floating" sight, where it moves around the screen and isnt locked to the center, and the traditional "locked" sight. Honestly, this system is genius. The floating sights feel VERY natural, and are perfect for close/medium range shooting where you need quick reaction speeds. You can easily move the sights around so they don't obstruct your vision (just like real life, where you'd shoulder the weapon, but look around the sights) Then the standard sights are good for long range shooting, but they block your view alot and are slower to move around.

-No jumping. BUT you can climb over pretty much anything reasonable. A seven foot stone wall? In any other game it would be an impassable obstacle, but in R&L, just hold down space bar and your guy will clamber up and over it. This opens up choke points and gives alot of tactical diversity. It's really something to see an entire squad crawling over a big wall to flank the defenders who are expecting them to come through the gate.

-Lots of other little stuff: Good suppression effects, good soldier movement (you can truly -dive- to prone) It looks great and has good models/animations, the maps are well laid out and easy to play. Theres no minimap, but your guy will actually pull out a paper map to look at it.

All in all, its a very solid game and I suggest anyone who has HL2 to definatly check it out. I would liken it to Red Orchestra, but without all the little game play things that I hate (like its stupid iron sights that are impossible to shoot with)

Yes I played this for a bit, a very good mod. I love the concept of it all but I wish they'd do more ally sides such as British, but the mod is based on the Airbourne so I can understand that. I can't wait for more updates and weapons, I wish a source game would put tanks in it. But yes, the second Iron Site has helped me a bloody lot for raiding rooms or going around corners, defending buildings is also fun and the skins are awesome (you can even see your own body!).

Looks pretty damn good. :)

I don't have HL2 though... :( Oh it's stand alone? It mentions nothing about requiring a game to run. Excellent!

You need a game with a Source engine.

I'm kind of a Steam noob -- if I own DOD:S and TF2, I can get this mod to work...right?

FWIW, DOD:S is $10. What a POS game that is, though.
