Is this game any good? Its on sale at amazon.com and I am wondering if I should pick it up. Is it tense and strategic, or arcadey and action-orientated? Does it get repetitive quickly? Is there incentive to keep playing the game? How is the multiplayer?
Is it tense and strategic, or arcadey and action-orientated? It can be very sense and strategic. When you encounter a task force the shit really hits the fan :D Does it get repetitive quickly? Not quickly no, its not very linear so you can go off sinking what you like. Is there incentive to keep playing the game? Yeah, its very dynamic and a great lot of fun! You can increase the realism if you start finding its too easy or not challenging any more which is cool. How is the multiplayer? Great fun! You can play with other human players in a wolf pack to hunt out convoys or task forces etc.
Been plaiyng it for about 6 days, ace game and i'm not even inrested in subs at all :)
Okey...its been numerous threads about it, but heres my oppinion: Is this game any good? Yes Its on sale at amazon.com and I am wondering if I should pick it up. Do it. Is it tense and strategic, or arcadey and action-orientated? I would say tense and strategic; you have no friggin idea what a feeling you get when you are laying 150m below the surface, listening to the cracking sounds from your TypeIIA sub, and then you hear the dive-bombs exploding around you... Its very strategic when you head out from port and get assignment in one map square, and then you suddently recieves a radio message of a convoy moving in that-and-that direction, and you must make a decision if you have fuel/supplies enough to manage to shadow it and such. When you get the convoy in sight, should you aim at the escorts for then to surface and take out the merchants with your deck-gun? or take out the biggest tankers and then dive away into the deep? Do you shoot down the scouting Swordfish, or do you crash-dive? The strategic decisions in endless... Does it get repetitive quickly? Well, sorta. I have played career for a while, and you only get missions saying "patrol grid AG46" (for example). Its usually to just go into the map room, plot in the course, and then set on x1024 time compression. But its a delight when you spot a convoy and decides to attack it. Is there incentive to keep playing the game? I dont know the word "incentive", so I wont answer! :P How is the multiplayer? Good. Thats all there is too it. Good. 8 players in LAN, or 4 over the internet is what I've heard is the maximum. Me and 4 other buddies were playing it together on a LAN, and you realy got that wolf-pacl feeling! :) All-in-all, BUY IT! And eve better if amazon has it on sale! :D
This game is very worth buying and they are working on expansions for it already. I am looking forward to when they make destroyer command link into this for online play.

Are you sure they are making DC for SH3?
They hinted at it being in the works. I know they are working on their first expansion right now. I believe from what I read that they are waiting to start DC until sales figures come in.
I love it. My only gripe is the lack of AI subs and HQ interaction - wolfpacks.
One question that's been bugging me: Do the crew speak? If so do they speak in German or is it English with stupid German accents? I had Aces of the Deep all those years ago and that had the option of having German speach (with subtitles) or English-with-German-accents speach. I always went for the German :)
