Did anyone see the Discovery Channel program about the sinking of the Lusitania? If you did see the program, what did you think about it?

I liked the way it was done; it brought new light to the events of the sinking and how it could have been avoided. It is unfortunate how both sides were looking for a scapegoat to pin all of the blame on despite the fact that both the U-Boot and Lusitania Captains did what they were told. What do you guys think? Even it you didn't see the program, I think it would be interesting to discuss because not many people know a lot about the sinking (including me).

Didn't see it. But IIRC within the last few years there arose some fairly good documentary evidence (maybe part of the Lusitania's manifest) that the ship was not strictly neutral as had long been asserted. I believe there was evidence to show that, along with all the regular cargo, there was some small arms ammunition and some other munitons being shipped from the US to England. If this were the case, Germany would technically have been within her rights to interdict the shipment - but not to drown 1,200 civilian passengers to do it.

i remember hearing that it was loaded with artillery fuses. but the Germans probably didnt know that. regardless, using civilian transports to transport war materials sickens me.

Ok I finally watched it, VERY well done. Good acting, great effects, and it seemed pretty accurate too.

Its a shame such a beautiful ship fell victim to such horrid acts(war) Weather there were ammunitions or not is pretty much irrelevant nowadays, but what both countries did after the sinking was like spitting on the deceased graves, and will always be pathetic in my books.

Good news for everyone who missed the program but would like to see it; the Discovery Channel will be airing it again this Saturday at 4:00 pm EST.

The program actually did go into this; it did show the Captain of the Lusitania accepting cargo from the military against his will. They showed the Lusitania being on the list of U-Boot targets. How the Germans were so confident that the ship was transporting war materials is a question though. If you get the Discovery Channel, I think you would find it interesting to watch; it goes into a lot of new discoveries.

And I have a question for zuiquan1, how did you manage to watch it? I didn't see it scheduled for showing until this Saturday.

Discovery has things scheduled in blocks, once one is over it gets repeated. So it re-aired that night at 1:00am.
