I am getting bored this summer, so I decided to try and learn how to play guitar. Anybody got any tips haha? I found a website with step by step on how to play chords and what not, so that might be good. I literally have no music talent what's so ever, so I'm curious to see how this goes.

Save your money and get health care! j/k. As a musician, I am getting tired of kids telling me that they can play music because they are good at rock band. Thats one of the reasons we wont get it in our home, Id rather spend the money on real lessons. Good luck. I really REALLY wish I had youtube in the late 80's. Jesus, you can watch guitar lessons "On demand" from my cable company!!!

I have a guitar, don't have a piano :)

Edit: Ok so I just had my first real day. I practiced CADG and E chord. My fingers now hurt :). Some of those are hard to do with my fat sausage fingers :). I practiced for an hour which I think is a legitimate time :).

Yeah, you'll build up some nice callouses on your fingers in no time.

Is it acoustic or electric? Acoustic is usually the best to start out with, if you want to go the electric guitar route.

Acoustic, with steel strings, and a weird bowed out plastic back

Ok, good, that's perfect to start on. Online programs work great, and if you want to go the easier route (ie, if you don't want to actually write music), I'd suggest you check out tabbing. You don't learn the notes, but it makes things a lot easier for when you're starting out, in getting the feel for how to actually play the guitar.

I feel the need to ask. Who actually says they can play music because they are good at rockband? I have never heard this statement uttered.
