Saving Private Ryan was on channel 5 here in the UK a few days ago and I've always wondered what the hell that German soldier is saying to Melish when he stabs him- any German speakers care to enlighten me?

Amazingly I was able to find the scene on Youtube. :p

Warning: The following link contains horrible historical inaccuracies and is not suitable for small children and people with low knowledge about the Second World War.

He says: "Hör auf, du hast keine chance, lasst es uns beenden." "Stop it, you have no chance, let us end this"

Then: "Es ist einfacher für dich, viel einfacher, es ist gleich vorbei." "This is easier for you, much easier, it will be over soon."

*note: The bits in German might contain some errors, I'm not fluent. :p

You have just answered one of those nagging questions you have filed away in your cranium but forgot to ask at the appropriate moment. Well Lightning actualy answered it but you know what I mean. Thank you both! Thats a load off my mind I forgot about.:majic:

I have another translation question about another movie. In Schindler's List during the scene where the Jewish residents are being driven out of the Ghetto. There is a scene where this teenager runs away and a German soldier is about to shoot him, but his father tackles him and then the German soldier shoots the father. When two German soldiers bring the boy back the soldier that shot the father shoots the son and one of the two soldiers that brought the boy back got pissed, went over, and kinda hit the rifle of the soldier that shot and started yelling at him. Does anybody know what they were argueing about?

For God's sake, I would hope the soldier who started yelling had done so because he was angry at the other soldier, because that would mean he would still have some degree of morality, to feel anger over the death of a "dirty Jew" (no offense intended at all, just looking at it from their point of view).

That was one of the saddest scenes in Schindler's List, a father sacrificing himself to save his son, but all in vain.... :(

But then, for all the German I know, he could have been yelling at the other guy not to waste ammo. :/
