lol guys, this isn't just one plane, the cri cri is a widespread homebuilt, a company makes them and people build them, it's not just some custom aircraft..

That is an incredible machine. And the pilot is either the bravest man I've ever seen or he was suckin' on a crack pipe 5 minutes before he sat in that aluminum bathtub with twin lawnmower blades. He did rolls! Chandelles! Immelmans! Ye gods and little fishes.

A fair bit of info there. I wasn't suprised when he took off... but I was bloody suprised when he started doing rolls and loops with great ease! According to the wikipedia article, at least one plane has been modified to use two small jet engines. That must be quite a sight.

As for the canopy not closing? I think it's supposed to close with that gap still there? On another vid I saw of the plane the canopy also closed leaving that small gap.

Well the canopy was closed when he landed. I think it was a pretty tight fit though, and the pilot didn't want to crunch it down until he had to. It doesn't look that bad actually. It's small, but it looks like it is all aluminum, so as long as it was properly welded together it should be a pretty solid little plane, totally capable of the aerobatics we saw. The ones that scare me are the tiny fiberglass ultralights. I keep expecting the wings to fall off those little things.
