Many a time in FH have i been killed or injured by silent and invisible artillery fire (such as the 105 Howitzer) or mortars. Is it supposed to be 'silent and deadly' on purpose? Or is it just a bug that there is no explosions or sound of incoming rounds? Always wondered about this.

My pet peeve in FH. Not the lack of sound or sight of explosions but the fact that arty is stationary and able to become part of pixel shooting. Playing El Al, some one on Allies had this down because the minute a flag would go white, he would hit the flags. Whoever it was he had the middle and the North bunkers down pat. Frankly, it just sucks big time.

If I remember correctly, I heard that this is a bug that happens because artillery shells are only rendered/have their sounds played when the actual artillery piece is rendered/has its sounds played. Since all objects stop being rendered after certain distances (due to system performance and the fog making it pointless anyways), the shells from them become invisible at that point too. 'Tis an oversight that almost certainly came from the original (vanilla) battlefield not really using artillery much - especially at some of the ranges that FH uses. The optimization made perfect sense for that, but unfortunately, it seems to be hard-coded. Unless only artillery vehicles/objects were made to be rendered at all distances, possibly? I'm not one to know the real effects of that idea, though.

Ahh, interesting. That does make sense because i've been taken out by artillery and i've actually seen the explosion and then i've also been taken out by the 'super secret weapon; invisible and silent artillery' :p (as I've mentioned earlier).

It only seems to be invisible when it hits you directly, like when a tank shells hits a guy right in the chest it doesn't seem to explode as powerfully. That's all I can think of.
