The few maps where the Germans get to play with U-Boats (Desert Rose, Rheinuebung) have incredibly limited Allied air capability. Plus, the maps tend to be too short to really have real air/sea battles come into play--I love U-Boats, but it's usually chug-chug-chug-chug-ohshitadestroyer! *bang* *blub*. Wash-rinse-repeat.

Sometimes you get lucky and nail something, but you need patience.

On those rare occasions when a Swordfish pops up (no Sunderlands or anything really nasty around), the existing on-board guns are pretty good. In fact I've actually duked it out with a destroyer for a while once (okay, he was shooting like a drunk, but still, I lived for quite a while.)

I'd love to have a Vierling on one of the boats, just for the giggle value though :-)

i am not afraid of destroyers. i actively hunt them. the trick is to stay away from the rear of the ship. also try "all back full" turns. that is where you are going full ahead and then you reverse your engines, it makes you turn on a dime with nine cents change. if all else fails, RAMMING SPEED!!!

Dr.FritzAhh a Unterseeboot-Flieger Abwehr Kanone.

Correction! ;)

So, how did this U-Flak submerge without damaging the Vierling.

As Kading said, they just plugged the barrels, and then I think they were ready to submerge.

But the U-FlaKs were not special in having the Vierling turret. It was standard on all Type VII and IX from around '44 and to the very end.

Well, in hindsight its easy to see it was a bad idea.

An uboat is generally not a stable weapnons plattform, and even thinking about using a uboat in a offensive anti air war is pretty silly. The vierling (or any AA gun for that matter) mounted on the standard uboats were ment as a point defence weapons against planes, not an offensive weapon.

The best defence a uboat had against planes were to submerge...

For all you destroyer hunters: don't hunt them with the PT boats or the Type 38.:sillyme:

Speaking of which, I think the torp boats are the most deadly ship in the game. They're numerous, fast, small, packed with Mgs and AA guns and typically pack enough torps to take down a battleship. They totally dominate many maps. :uhoh:
