I didn't make it!
I have some FH2 video clips that I took with Fraps. They look pretty damn good. I have all the visual settings at max. I would like to post a few to show how great the game looks. What is the prefered resoultion? 1920x1080, 1920x1200, 2048x1280, 2304x1440. I will show the clips with 16af, 16aa, high quality settings.
Rawhide;4622716So, been thinkin' about upgrading the old PC. Current system: P4 3,2Ghz, 1GB Ram, GeForce 6600 Goal? Playing FH2 and PR with highest settings on everything, 100% viewdistance and all that* * Without lagg too So, what do I need to buy and how much would it cost?
All you really need is to replace that pitiful GPU. Radeon 3850 is the best available and costs about $105 USD after rebate. It's really a bit overkill for the CPU (perhaps you can overclock it a bit as there is no real worthwhile upgrade?). Given its 512MB RAM, no more system RAM should be required for high textures although that is dependent upon how much extraneous crap is running at idle and whether you can be bothered with closing it. ;) The only potential snag is that the 3850 requires relatively high power (about 5.25A vs 4.00 for the 6600GT or 2.25 for regular) so a power supply replacement may also necessary. Perhaps $40 might be recovered by selling the 6600. Lag is a function of network latency. But the new card alone should allow most, if not all, high in-game settings with acceptable frame rates. Out-game settings actually allow for higher image quality but may not be attainable -for instance with better AF and AA than the game offers.
a guy;4656966 If you look at BF2 as a soul programe, a 3,0PIV is better then a 2.5quad. However, your computer doesn't work on soul programes, it continualy runs others aswell, and wile bf2 runs on only one core, the pc has 3 other cores at his disposal to run the backgroundprogrames.
No, a modern quad running at 2.5GHz running a single core program is equal to something like 6GHz PIV, which makes the quad faster than the P4 even in BF2.
Clock speed isn't the meter of performance.
thanx for the tips... Will get back to you on the RAM (Don't know it off my head) and check the AA.. What is AF, though?
I noted that when I played 32-sized maps, everything moved so much smoother - So I know something's definitely up. Its subtle, but there is a difference in the speed of the game in 32 versus 64-sized games for my PC...
AF = Anisotropic Filtering. It makes distant textures look more clear and crisp. Its like BF2 Texture Filtering setting but gives you way better results.

Lol, why is this in the GD and not move in 3 weeks? =p
:moved: from GD to OT.

BF2 texture filtering setting has 2x AF when set on High.
