Remember Galactic Conquest?
Well, with the death of Battlefield 1942 and its mods, the team split in two and went on to Battlefield 2. One party, led by Scott Szier (team leader, GC), got to work on Shattered Faith. The other, led by Yoshi Boy (beta tester, GC) and Canadiens (who was never part of the GC team, but an excellent mapper), decided to take what they had learned about space combat from Galactic Conquest and make a modification that was to take place 100% in space, centered around capital ships and space stations.
Warpmod.com; The "About" section Warp: Dimensional war is a revolutionary mod in development for Battlefield 2. It will prominantly feature space combat with an array of devastating flagships to your run-of-the-mill fighter craft.
Not only this, but every release will add to a growing single-player campaign, telling the story of the dimensional war with the player taking either the human side or the Hybrid side, and plunging them into a deep story of betrayal, honor, and patriotism.
Take part in on-line space battles over space satations, defence outposts, warp gates and even Earth herself. Board your enemy's capital ships and take them for your own, or completely eradicate the competition. New inovative tactical gameplay will allow for greater teamplay, with new strategies forming with every ship having weaknesses and strengths. Fight for Earth, or fight to end it. The choice is yours to make.
Have anyone else than me paid the site a visit yet? They have some nice screen shots up, and the concept itself sounds very promising. That huge freighter looks especially neat, I can't wait to take the reins of it:smokin:.
There's some debate on the forums as to what exactly it will feature (zero-G suits, gun platforms, etc. are being debated), but boarding will, like in Galactic Conquest, play a large part, as will the capital ships themselves.
More screen shots will undoubtedly be uploaded as they get their new site running.

As the ex-co-leader of Galactic Conquest testing team, I can assure you, no beta testers were involved in the process of Galactic Conquest total conversion modification for Battlefield 1942. Instead, they were Alpha testers. Heh... Also, if MY memory serves me right, Canadiens was part of the Alpha team. ;)
Yes, no offence or anything Safe Keeper, just had to pull a bit of your leg. :)
Anyways, I know this bunch from GC, their all fine lads and I wish them both great future in the mod. I gotta admit I never have followed Warp's progress unless I am around Shattered Faith's IRC channel (daily, but usually just idling) and there is some conversation about it. Nevertheless, Warp looks like a fine mod so far and I hope it will get further than most of the mods out there.
I played GC a number of times and the guys put an amazing amount of work into the thing. I'll stay tuned for this one as I kind of like space-shooters. Presently playing Freespace 2 which is still a pretty decent game and available as freeware. A number of mods floating around as well, I'm interested in the Babylon job, but havn't tried it yet. No doubt someone will have a mod for something based on the fine new Galactica production.
'Kay, Flip', thanks for putting the record straight. As for space shooters, I'm currently playing the X2 demo, and I'm going to get X3 first chance I get. I just love that kind of games (I played Battlecruiser Millenium Gold Edition, too). I so sorely miss a Star Wars game of that genre (or a mod, at the very least):(. But back on topic. I think you should visit Warp's site if only to see that grand new freighter that is the Picture of the Month. It's a monster of a vessel, with a good deal of details like cranes and containers.
GC was awesome. I can't remember encountering a smacktard even once while playing GC, the mods did something terribly right. Hope they manage to pull it off again.

Hmm, not a star wars mod though, shame..i would have really loved to control a big ship such as a SSD Executor.

Word :bows: . The ships in Galactic Conquest (Frigates, Carrack Cruisers, etc.) were good enough for me, though. I'd love the fire-power of a Star Destroyer (not to mention a scaled-down-in-size Executor:eek: ), but those ships provided enough atmosphere as it was. Frantic repairs, boarding parties to fend off, running to the hangar bay to scramble TIE Fighters, manoevring to get a better firing position than the enemy capital ship... And what about those nifty escape pods that left your enemy eye gazing left on as you fleeded away from your burning ship? :D
And what about those nifty escape pods that left your enemy eye gazing left on as you fleeded away from your burning ship?
How could I forget about them:rolleyes:? Those hard-to-control coffins with limited fuel that were just about impossible to land inside a hangar? Not to mention that you could board ships with them. And finally that they added to the immersion and atmosphere (running frantically to the escape pods, watching them shoot out of ships you destroyed:bows:). One awesome feature indeed.
I hope Warp will have some sort of escape pods, too. Most likely it will.
