Sorry bout the slow reply, I was uh...

Well I was playing Doom 3. :P

Update::

Catalyst 4.9 Beta drivers have been released for ATI cards that increase Doom 3 preformance by ~20% and enable a few of the disabled features like a lot of the reflective and pixel-bending effects. You can get them here. They don't seem to screw with any other games, and there is a noticable preformance boost in Doom 3. Nothing that would change it from unplayable to Playable, but it does run smoother.

Nvidia cards NEED the latest drivers (61.xx) for Doom3 to even run. This was a problem with my friend's box, he had never updated his drivers before. I slapped him.

Lots of eye candy, lackluster multiplayer. Dig the flashlight, though. Was over at a friend's house last night to play Doom3, and that's my impression. I doubt I'll buy it... just doesn't really do it for me. But as far as running it is concerned: I was able to run it (somewhat slowly, but playable) at 800x600 in Ultra Quality, for multiplayer. I expect single player might be somewhat slower, due to AI--can't say for certain, because I'm not sure how much CPU was being eaten in multi. I do know, however, that Doom3 doesn't like to multitask =) My system specs are thus: Intel 2.4C @ 250MHz FSB (3.0GHz) on an ABIT IC7-Max3 2x512MB PC2700 Infineon DDR SDRAM @ 200MHz (5:4 divider) Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT 128MB WD1600JB HDD Englight 420W PSU Nominally playable, 800x600, Ultra Quality.

My timerefresh after the new drivers is 34 fps avg.

It sounds low, but its good enough.

I need a new Video card I thinks.

BTW, I just beat it.

Nope.

I have 45.23's and it runs fine. I don't want to upgrade them because last time I did other games didn't run as smooth.

I run the game at 1024x768 on low and with only shadows off and it runs at 40-60fps unless I'm in a room with alot of lights and moving things. It'll drop to 20.

I'm used to low fps though. I'm usually playing FH at like 20fps or less on congested maps (and yet somehow I do better than people who have the latest state of the art computers)

My system: 2ghz P4 512ddr 128mb GF4 4200 (using 45.23 drivers) Two 60gb HD's Sound blaster Audigy 1 Win XP pro (running pretty optimized)

There are mayn different ways of improving your DOOM III performance. One major improvment for example is extracting the compressed files in your DOOM folder. Then it wont need to be done ingame and will significantly boost your performance. However, the DOOM folder will also increase in size by about 100%... Anyway, I wont buy the game ! MP is supposed to be rather booring, and I dont buy a game for 20 hours of SP !

45.23 works? Interesting. We tried 5x.xx up and didn't have any success until the latest ones. I know that every new driver revision they put out cuts your preformance a little, so I was trying to find the lowest one that would run it. I'm using Omega 2.5.44 revision, and they're the fastest ones I've seen for my card. Its built off the Catalyst 4.7 which is 3 versions out of date.

They always say "if it works dont update your drivers" but I do anyways, because Im a fool.

Just an image of random gore you'll find in game. I thought this one was pretty cool.

Doom 3 developers have stated, that this has no effect on the overall performance, if anything, the opposite, which shows in slower loading times. I did this too and did not see any improvement in performance.

Do a google search for Doom 3 tweaks or look on the SA game forums. There are a lot of little config file tweaks that can slightly improve preformance. Specifically, load times.
