I agree, the system in RO is perfect... No flags but zones... For example, in one level there are about 3-6 zones named after a significant object in the area, and areas can be a number of sizes due to their significance...The area of the map you control effects the score... this should be inported into FH... the only place with a flag should be the Main...
Visible flags aren't necessary...you can just drop them beneath the terrain...the capture radius is still the same. It is a bit more realistic not having those flagpoles everywhere...but battlefield is battlefield.
I think a minimap should be a simple compass. and when you press "M" it should give you a realistic printed map with objectives drawn in pen and other suggestions drawn on. No enemies or friendlies should be shown, only messages from the mapper and rough locations of control points.
