Hi all, this will probably be in FH2 unless a mapper could do it for me. I was just reading the harrowing story of USS Batfish in the book Submarine! by Edward L. Beach. I've noticed that most people focus on the war against the U-boats when we talk about sea warfare. However many do not realize that we did the same thing to the Japanese as the Germans did to the British. I thought this patrol of the Batfish could be tweaked into a Pacific version of Rheinuebung. What really happened: USS Batfish sunk 3 top-of-the-line Japanese submarines over the course of a few days. She managed to survive all the efforts that the Japanese put into finding her (in the long run, not just as in a day of depth charging). How it goes in FH/2: Japanese I-class subs, 2 destroyers or so, and maybe a Rufe are pitted against 5 Gato Class USN submarines, with the objective being this: to kill everyone on the opposing team (meaning, kill the ships so they can't spawn) using any means necessary. BTW this is later in the war, so it could be tweaked into Americans having some homing torpedoes.:naughty: I think it would work better in FH2 because right now, depth charging a sub is too easy. The most the sub can get away with is 25% of her health because your battleship distracted it or sank it while you got away. IRL: Sub vs. DD battles could be fought over a matter of days, with the sub mainly running silent and possibly using a homing torp (cheekily named "Cutie" by some American crewers) to get the ships off their tails. The destroyers would be dropping depth charges all over the place, and following scant radar/sonar contacts that they picked up. I hope that sea warfare will be introduced better into FH2, and I hope this type of map can be implemented.
Pacific naval 4tw! I was watching the History/Almost Accurate Channel yesterday and they mentioned some neato anti sub japanese planes.
Awesome, I'm with Frederf. I'd love to see more pure Allied/Japanese naval battles (early war, such as the ABDA battles, PT boat action, subs sinking Japanese convoys/warships, etc etc etc.)
Well I have some good news for you, wjlaslo. Apparently Silent Hunter 4 is in development as we speak and it will focus on submarine warfare in the pacific. :)
It souunds like a fun map but just like Rheinburg.... what are the other twenty people going to be doing? The main servers are TDP, WOLF, WAW's and that German server. This is very much a twenty and under map. Any more and you get silly pubbies spamming AA into nothingness giving away your position for all to see.
This is why it might work better in FH2, when there are more positions to man, and you can yell at the guy who is firing your flares at the Yamato while you are in a Fletcher...

See, this is a good job for the commander--FH2 in the Pacific needs a "coastwatcher" function. Basically, if the commander says that you're being an idiot on a ship, you get demoted to sit in a hut on some island and spot Japanese ships. Anyone who's an idiot after you turns into a native islander, and gets a grass skirt and a funny haircut .
If the idiots are on the Axis team, they get turned into "fanatics" and can only spawn in the middle of some far-off out of bounds jungle island and have to hide there until the end of the map. Your weapon won't work, because it's rusty. Oh, and the "native islander" class can eat you.
I don't know if anyone remembers my idea for a "commissar" kit--this came to me during a particularly obnoxious map as Russian. Essentially, there should be the possibility for one guy on a team to pick up a kit or be assigned by the commander to deal with obnoxious teammates. He'd only have "firing squad" as his one weapon, and it would mean he could only tk, but with no -2 or 60 second penalty (but rather the guy he kills gets a 60 second timeout.) Ship captains should equally have a "walk the plank, matey" secondary fire function...
After all, you know what kinds of pirates sail underwater? That's right, submarrrrrrrghiners.
thats a lovly idea
Hmm, you all know those maps where one team really needs to push to win, not snipe:bawl:Streets of berlin anyone? Commanders can now set up a "laser" fence that moves forwards and only kills teammates, and enemies cant see it. Now that would make people get up and moving.:runaway:
wo..wo...wo.... this is bf1942 not bf2142
