It would be cool to get damaged while in water of a snowy map. Well, not lose more HP, but you will become exhausted quicker, thus, you wont last as long swiming in cold water than the Pacific (except for the alutians)
I like this idea.
I like the current system better, you can swim in water, but ( opposited of Vanilla Battlefield ) only for a brief short time before you get damage.
Why not? It's a good idea. Already one map in upcoming map pack has objects (barbed wires, would use making them geometry less) that are damaging you when you're swimming through the river. It's a winter map ofcourse.
I think this is probably hardcoded ... I mean I could be wrong. There has always been the method of placing barbed wire in water in BF1942 to simulate icy water however. Perhaps a similar method could be used in FH2 ... although it'll be a long time before we see frozen water - for the time being you get to swim in warm oasis.
Its like swimming in a hot tub in the middle of the artic ocean.
I belive taht it is impossible to do two different types of water, beacuse this is what it would require since you can't modifie water properties on map base. And you don't have to place barbed wire, simple, non geometry object with player killing code would be enough. It would work like the Axis/AlliesKiller objects used to guard bases now. The speed of health lost can be adjusted.
Just change the health loss speed, and will there be frozen water surfaces? (syatic object that can break if you drive over them.)
I think cold water should kill almost immediately, and falling in there should make one lose all his stamina right away. Sure cold water wouldn't kill you in real life, but in -20°c it would sure as hell incapacitate anyone.

Remember that there is no water damage in BF2, you can swim as long as you want. This can make some maps with lakes bit silly but there should be definitely damage in winter maps.
