2ltbenparachutes take 4 seconds to open.

Depends on the chute. Standard military mass drop chutes are pulled out by a cord attached to the aircraft and open virtually instantly. There is no "pulling the ripcord" on the way down. That is why para drops are done from as low an altitude as posible so the trooper has the least amount of time between the plane and the ground (during which time he is a sitting duck). Military chutes also drop you so fast that you land with all the grace of a sack of potatos for the same reason.

So I guess the question is, what are the para drops in the FH maps supposed to represent, how can it be implemented in FH? I still think it would be easiest to make a delayed ripcord, than to program everybody's chutes to open once they jump, but I'm no programmer. Could be the other way around.

Yeah, paratrooper zip line chutes are pulled out instantly and take 4 seconds to open. If it doesn't open the paratrooper uses his reserve chute. I beleive pilot ripcord parachutes take about the same time to open because it's pretty much the law of physics, except he's supposed to open ten seconds after he starts falling to get away from enemy planes that might shoot him and to get much lower so he won't be shot by AA.

C47s were instructed to fly low, low for military aircraft is one or two thousand feet.

And Uncle, parachutes take 4 seconds to open.

A lot of things take more time in real life then they do in FH. It's a fast paced game. The chute still deploys instantly whenever you hit 9. I think what I suggested would be the simplest way to solve the problem, I didn't need any educating on how a parachute works.

maybe not 4 seconds, in some cases, youd go splat by then. but the zipline idea remains my favorite. just to give an idea, landing in a T8 chute felt like jumping 6 feet down.
