Bikewer;4776771Just to continue...I flew a Hurri (on El Alemain) down to the German base and parked it about 200 yards out. I spawned as an engineer so I could bring it up to full strength in case of any landing glitches...

Six direct hits from the 20mm AA gun were required to destroy the aircraft.

That's rather a lot of hits; hard to manage on even a low-flying aircraft.

I parked another one out at only 50 yards, and it only took three hits. Distance a factor? Even 200 yards is unlikely in the typical combat situation.

For years I've heard people say, "shoot for the engine". I directed all these shots at the engine area. However, when I was doing the test with the machine gun, where the plane could be made to smoke and then would magically fix itself...Didn't matter at all where I shot. Landing gear, rudder, any half-second burst would produce smoking.

It's still my conclusion that the aircraft are overly durable at present, and as such the only decent air defense is for your own pilots to concentrate on destroying the enemy's bombers and ground-attack aircraft, rather than engaging in dogfighting. Since this is (usually) unlikely; seems to me things could be tweaked a bit in terms of balance.

Well you do make a valid arguement. Much better than "fix teh planz n0w plz" I'll give you that

You probably parked on or near the german runway then if it magically fixed itself. You cant make the fighters useless against AA because fighters pave the way for the bombers. Stukas would be pretty useless on most maps if every bofors were in operation. However I can agree that fighters should be a little more vulnerable to offset their speed advantage.

Actually, I drove the German truck with the twin machine guns over to the Brit airfield. Parked off to one side....

Back when I was playing WWII online, there were so many complaints about the British having the Bofors and the Germans limited to the little 20mm gun that the devs finally broke down and gave everyone the Bofors...

We did have the 88, of course, but using it as a single weapon against aircraft just didn't work well.

What about the M16 halftrack? That'd be a fun one to see in Fh2, shame it didn't make it into FH1.

While I think the quad 20mm does the job just as well as the 40mm Bofors gun, I suppose a stationary German 37mm gun could be added.

Either way I am looking more towards mobile AA.
