On maps with a lot of water wouldn't it be nice to have a raft if you're shot down? In the old DC, infantry could spawn their own sandbags. How about if downed pilots could spawn a raft as they parachuted to the water. Then they might get back and survive or better yet might be picked up by a sea plane.
I like your idea, but i can't find any records on the internet about downed fighterpilots who used liferafts after they crashlanded on water or bailed out over water. So i don't think liferafts were added to there equipement. Maybe this had something with the lag of space in a cockpit to store them in, because larger planes like a b17 or b24 were fitted with liferafts for there crewmembers. Maybe adding an lifejacket will be a better idea. ;-)
Sorry, that isn't true. Most all U.S. Navy aircraft had deflated liferafts as standard equipment. They were fitted with a CO2 bottle, which the pilot discharged into the raft with a button in the cockpit, and the raft came out of a panel and inflated.
Some Japanese aircraft did not carry these, or if they did, many pilots removed them. But most Allied aircraft, including single-seat fighters, carried them. The pilots also had a canister of that green dye stuff to stain the sea around them so that rescue planes could find them more easily.
I don't really see the point of a liferaft in FH, though. There aren't any rescue planes, and you always have the option of suiciding and respawning on land. You don't do your team any good by spending several minutes rowing to shore so you can get there with just a pistol. It is much better to just kill yourself and spawn on shore with a rifle in the first place.
thx Lateralus for clearing that up.
liferafts instead of pistols for pilots in botr/bob, good thinking
D-Fensliferafts instead of pistols for pilots in botr/bob, good thinking
I could definitely go for that, those aircraft-only maps are hindered by enemies constantly bailing out above you and trying to shoot you with a pistol or still your planes.
On other maps, though, I fail to see the use for a liferaft.
Good idea. Would definatly save teams with good pilots a few tickets. ;)
Nice idea. Being shot down in the middle of the ocean could now be fun! ;)
This suggestion makes me think of the book catch22.
Germany had Devices in the English Channel for Downed pilots I don't know what its called but I will find a pic of ASAP
