Lt.M@rv;3410181Agreed.Like it's in "Heroes of the pacific" that if you are low and are flying with correct airspeed then the torpedo will hit the target otherwise it won't.

This is already the case. I dont think it works very well with destroyers but you can take out a carrier or battleship (sits lower in the water) with devastation. The torps are much more powerful. Plus anyone who does drop like that is an idiot. These planes require a little more stealth to be successful. I fly just over the surface the whole time. I drop the torp the second I see the ships shadow, the boogie out to reload. No chance of even being spotted by the ship.

yeah but: 1: if you drop at that distance, the ship can still dodge it. 2: i dont think it could be coded for the torp only to work in the circumstances you mentioned, but then again, i might be wrong. 3:this is the as i would say rien a voir (nothing to do with it) point: if you fly low, you would have to climb to get an enemy which causes you to lose alot of airspeed and probably also causes you to get shot down :)

moral of this story: maybe it would be possible to code it so that it would blow only when it came in contact with water first? is that possible?

That's fine. Ships very often _did_ dodge torpedoes, even carriers and battleships. I've been in naval fights in FH where I or my captain have dodged nicely.

One of the dangers of torpedo bombing, alas. Torpedo 8 lost all of its planes and all but one man (Ens. George Gay) during the Battle of Midway. On the other hand, they also helped draw the Japanese air cover down to just above sea level, giving the dive bombers a clear shot at the Japanese carriers.

Way cool idea--an arming delay, like with REAL TORPEDOES (that's what the little propeller at the front is for.)

In FH1, dropping a torp on the deck of a carrier does near nil damage while in the side takes off a healthy chunk of life (just like in Bf1942 vanilla).

I haven't seen anyone dodge a torpedo in FH1 as they go so fast and travel so short (in fact so short that a real torpedo wouldn't even arm). I wouldn't mind having "minimum arm distances" for torpedos.

Also I'd love Fuzzy's idea of having loudout switching on the decks of ships.. if it were possible? Along side that suggestion I'd like to amend on having decks were landing and rearming isn't suicide due to the spawn placement and spawn frequency of planes on deck.

I lost three tanks in Philippines the other day due to Andy02 dumping torpedoes on me. It got old after a while. When you drop them on flight decks, they do have some blast radius, hence plane + infantry death.

And I could _swear_ I've lost a bunch of health recently to a torpedo dropped on a destroyer. I just think the tactic is pretty lame, and if possible, damage should be adjusted accordingly. You're right about it not doing damage when dumped _on_ a carrier deck, which is an awesome start, someone was thinking.

I do it all the time--if it's coming in at an angle, a destroyer can easily turn to get out of the way. Or you're in a BB and have been hit by a sub torpedo at one side, you turn in that direction (knowing that more are probably on the way) and at least some will miss. Same for aerial torpedoes--if you see him coming, you turn. It just takes some situational awareness and imagination as to what he's going to do next.

During WWII, ships as large as carriers would even dodge incoming dive bombers.

Also I'd love Fuzzy's idea of having loudout switching on the decks of ships.. if it were possible? Along side that suggestion I'd like to amend on having decks were landing and rearming isn't suicide due to the spawn placement and spawn frequency of planes on deck.

Absolutely. Carriers IMHO are awesome candidates for land-to-reload.

I was saying that you get some visual signal when your are at the right altitude. It happened to me often that i was flying just over the water dropped the torp and the thing would just pass under the ship. really annoying. You can say just fly low but that is not handy also this might make the cockpit vision more handy.

Also a request would be (for al planes maybe) to be able to lower the throttle with the arrow keys or something so you can aim better.

I like the idea of changing waepons on a ship but if you are going to do that than the load out of the carrier must change. like you have one place were you can take of and one for landing. Just do it so that there are no planes in the way so people can land easy and take of easy (brake cables?? maybe)

Agreed 100% about cockpit vision -- don't need guncam view if there's a better way to look around the cockpit and position yourself. There have been separate threads on this, including a pretty awesome suggestion by Frederf on being able to 'lean forward'.

However, I don't think there should be a "marker", although a working altimeter would be pretty good. Remember that whenever you drop a torpedo, it first sinks, then comes back up again to just below the surface. The higher you are, the further underwater the torpedo will go before re-surfacing. So if you're too high, you have to make sure you're at least far away from the ship.

Also a request would be (for al planes maybe) to be able to lower the throttle with the arrow keys or something so you can aim better.

You can alread do this, I think, but I don't think it's "persistent" (i.e. you gotta "juggle" the speed a bit. I have a joystick with separate throttle (Wingman 3D Extreme, I believe) that works a beaut. However, I never slow down when torpedo bombing (AA.)

about the idee of changing your'e loadout on a plane would it be possible to code the planes like the do with infentery where they press 'G' to pick up a new kit like laying a bomb or torp kit underneath the plane's spawn point so the can press 'G' and pick up that kit??? btw i'm new to this forum so hi all:cya:
