well heres wut i saw on this b17g when we took off there was this airbag blocking off the tail gunner from like ball turret and waist gunners (and the nearest exit)... now i have no clue whether or not that was just because they didn't want the people back there or that was actually used in combat. the plane is called the yankee lady. the ball turret was the one used in the movie memphis belle. but still not sure about that airbag (remember this was a G-model)

while on the topic of tail gunners, I think the MG in the back of planes like stukas would be more effective if it had a larger movement range.

And no nuclear muzzle flash. :p The movement could be increased. And damage factor to enemy planes should be increased too. It takes what, like 60 mg 34 rounds In the engine to take down a spitfire? Do you know what 60 mg 34 rounds would do to a spitfire engine in real life? shit. Would only need like 15 or so to completely decommision it.

Yeah right now in BF2 the planes just explode. What would be more fun was if the plane just get's damaged and handles much worse and moreso until it's completley shot up and loses control, maybe if more fire is put on, it sets on fire, then explodes. But the wreckage falls for longer than that in BF2.. . Would result in some nice kamikaze-style "if i'm gonna die, i'm gonna do it properly" deaths.

Also, planes tend to be "shot down" instead of "blown up" especially in those days. It would result ,however, in more bailing/less pilot kills. But if you can make an enemy plane out of commision, you've helped your team greatly. This isn't ranked so it's all about winning anyway, plus a bailed pilot won't get the chance to respawn back to his fresh new plane, so they'll most likely not bail?

I hope killing enemy planes doesn't take too long though, otherwise they'd get bored. Stop killing each other and go after ground troops. Lame.
