JincillaI want to buy a new system , but I don't know to buy AMD or INTEL ? I was thinking of AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1,2Ghz, because AMD is much cheaper than Intel. (also 256 Mb ram , Geforce 2 MX ) Now, I don't have any experience with AMD, but I was wondering if i will be able to play all the games with this baby, or is it true that AMD has compatibility problems with some games ? I hope some of you AMD experts or users out there can help me.

I was a sad owner of 4 athlon XPs within a week, they got fried, (all 4 of them!) so i said "How about intel?" well i got my new motherboard and got a p4 1.8 ghz. The thing was so fricken awesome! it was kept cool w/ the stock cooler! so i decided to void the warranty by overclocking (increasing the fsb, thus going up in Ghz) WITH THE STOCK COOLER I GOT UP TO 2.4GHz!!!!!!, And here's the best part, the pentium 4 will decrease in fsb, if it gets to hot, so basically u can't go wrong by ditching AMD! But that new athlon 64fx is close up....but not enough compared with the p4EE(extreme edition)

AMD rocks, cuz they're extremely effective in games, due to the quanti-speed-architecture... and way cheaper than Intel CPUs with the same speed.

uhh no. AMD has never attained the speeds that Intel has. that number (3200+,3400+) isn't the actual speed of the cpu, it's the performace rating. Stating that their cpu performance wise is = to that speed of the intel cpu clocked at it. i.e. Misleading AMD cpu's are great for budget systems. But if you want to fork over for a killer system, right now, Intel is the way to go. AMD released their 64-bit cpu's. Which are great, but still too pricey for the normal consumer, since not only do you need the cpu, but a new mobo, and registered ram(harder to come by than non-registered). The only really good AMD64 cpu is the FX-51. the new 3400+ is cheaper, but the memory pipeline was cut in half. AMD has quanti-speed architecture, but Intel has hyper-threading. Both are great new technologies, but not many programs are opimized for them. In many cases, you'll see a difference in performance there is no doubt, but in order for hyper-threading to show a more then just noticable increase in performance, you need to run programs that are multi-threaded(setup for using multiple cpu's). Quanti-speed architecture is just the FSB being quadpumped on the cpu, since that's where the memory controller is. Intel has used that ever since it debuted with 533mhz fsb(133mhz x 4 cycles)

We have a family PC and the AMD gets way more hotter than the Intel.

I heard that you can overclock an AMD easier than an Intel. It's not uncommon for the owners of AMD's to overclock it so the speed matches the Model Number.

The main downside i've found with AMD is that they run hotter, which requires mroe heatsinks. But other than that they work well for me.
