... thougth 4x4 km is about to be the maximum the bf1942 engine could handle properly ?
I've been playing with the idea of scaling it down just a little:p.
Trust me, 4x4km is very big.
And for a complete theater, I dont think it will work. It is a good idea nonetheless.
That'd be pretty funny, the D day beaches would be about a metre wide. Kind of a coolish idea but whether it'd work or not I don't know. In my opinion a big no, no for official FH but would be cool for fan mappers.
Heh, it was bad enough trying to scale down the whole Anzio peninsula into a "medium" Bf42 map... I don't think a whole front would work! :)
No! I'm Spamacus!

I'm just curious, I know nothing about BF2 mapping (I don't have nor want it until FH2 comes out ;) ), but would scaling all the units down a lot work any better? Larger maps + smaller units = Big fun
Safe KeeperI don't know about including every little city, just the larger ones. And I'm pretty sure more than 3 buildings for each city would fit on the map.
Great idea, all we now need is to fit our Gamingrigs with atleast 4Gb ram and we are all set :D
Forgotten Hope is not a real time strategy mod, nor is it a massive multiplayer online mod. I doubt Battlefield 2's engine would be able to handle it realistically. I'm not saying it's impossible, but the end result wouldn't really feel like Europe, know what I mean? (Pictures American jeep capturing Berlin, Germans must make their last stand in Paris)
If you look at some dice maps, they did use orginal geographical maps and scaled them down. (el elamein, tubrok) But they don't provide intensive gameplay. If you want to create a feeling of a real battle, You can't do it with 64 players. IRL there were millions of "players". So thats why I like maps like Pegasus, FH-stalingrad, Foy, remelle ... Because as player you represent 1 soldier, not 1000. A game like bf42 with arcade gamplay can handle those maps, but if you wan't a realictic feeling, it's difficult.
So the idea of putting one theatre in one map is a bit strange for me.
(sorry for my Englisch)
you would have to scale down the countryside to much to work. the maps are just not big enough. 1 tree would have to represent an entire forest for example. the only way this would work is with all new custom models and equipment. all scaled down in size by 500% or more. then you could do it maybe, but it would probably lag badly with so many objects.
Ensign RilesI'm just curious, I know nothing about BF2 mapping (I don't have nor want it until FH2 comes out ;) ), but would scaling all the units down a lot work any better? Larger maps + smaller units = Big fun
You can do this but you can't scale down the terrain edditing grid. Even now often they grid squares occure to be too big to make for example a ditch, road and hedgerow near itselfes. After you do this you wouldn't be able to do groundpiles, ditches and anything like this at all.
