I had a random idea, and figured it might just work..

Those familar with UT2004's "Assault" game mode must have noticed that there is a neat and usefull indicator moving around the map, leading the player towards the next objective.

My idea is something like that, but it would only work for on the map /minimap. Why not spawn a specially created "vehicle" way above, or under the map, scripted to fallow a sertain path, A path between flag1, flag2, flag3 in pushmaps, and from Base to the objective, or objectives, in objective based maps, and link the destruction of the objective with the spawning of the "vehicle" so it doesnt appear on the map/minimap once the objective is destroyed.

So basicly the vehicle spawns at the player's mainbase, fallows a scripted path, then gets destroyed at the end of the line, so there would be a moving (special, in the form of an arrow?) picture moving along on the map/minimap, showing players where to go next.

Good idea? usefull, or just stupid? You tell me. :deal:

Interesting idea, though it seems to be a whole lot of coding. If it's possible, though, I'd support it for those specialized objective ish maps.

we might have to, because alot of players seem to be too stupid to be able to count, or follow arrows.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, although I hope the arrow won't be oversized and cross any problems with gameplay.

To be honest, it seems like it'd be a crutch and a gimmick. We've got people yelling to get rid of as much clutter and information as possible (health bars, ammo indicators, etc.) so why add something? My assumption was always that FH aimed to attract a "higher caliber" of players, who wouldn't need this.

What I'd really like to see, and I don't remember whether BF2 fixed this as it's been a while since I played it, is fixed minimap icons & directions--i.e. the arrow actually tells you where you are. Either that, or, how's this, a compass on the screen. That wouldn't be too much information for a WWII soldier, and it would really help me, for one.

I'm not sure, personally I would think any person failing to read instructions or follow numbers on the minimap deserves to be shot. "Follow the moving arrow to the next objective" reminds me too much of an arcade game where people fail to use their minimap or are to damn lazy to have to find out on their own wether objective #1 has fallen or not.

Perhaps an active objective order/status would fix that or just a radio message (one that stands out) "Objective #1 completed/fallen!". This could also be made on object destroyed like a kill message but show bold red so it can't be missed.

Simple, clear, beat-you-over-the-head info is alright by me.

How about setting a waypoint on the minimap and arrows guide you to it? Not that I need this or would use it.. Maybe the devs should put GPSs on tanks as well ... Just kidding!

Because your suggestion doesn't seem to be possible in the BF2 engine, the OP's suggestion is. Kinda makes yours not so good eh?

I think yer trying to come up with a solution to a non-problem here. Why not just circle objectives, like in the new Midway map or the 0.67 Fan Mappack Cretan Village?

I mean, every soldier would be expected to carry a map around, on which he'd be likely to pencil stuff in (yeah yeah I know, being trained to fold- and re-fold maps so the enemy will never know your secret plans, but get real...)

I don't understand why anything flashing blinky-light would be needed.
