I think it is rather ridiculous that you can blow up a Panzer III with an antitank rifle. It would be more realistic if the bullet enters the tank, without doing much damage to the tank itself, but instead hurting or killing the crew, when aimed at the right places of course. On the other hand, it should be able to do some serious damage to unarmored or lightly armored vehicles like jeeps or halftracks.

It is possible, but not without a LOT of tweaking and all that modding stuff. I think that it's a nice idea, but I wouldn't get your hopes up because it's not the only thing the devs have to work on. It would take up too much time. Maybe in FH2, when they get settled into the system of BF2.

I'm no expert on modding but as far as I can tell, that could be coded in to FH2. Remember that you can shoot through objects with certain weapons, maybe this could also be applied to tanks. The only problem would be converting the code from statics to vehicles...

Hit the ammo stores with an anti tank rifle and the tank will brew up. PzII side armour can be penetrated by a vickers HMG. So a PTRD should blast through it with no trouble.

I like the idea of doing minor damage to the tank but hurting the crew. Since an M95 can shoot the pilot out of a hovering chopper I don't see why this isn't do-able. Like on the front of a markIV you could shoot the gunner or driver through their armored viewports. Or maybe if you shot through the barrel it would damage the gun. I have been told that is something the Red's used to do against German tanks. I don't think a PTRD should be able to go through the side or front of any of the better tanks but maybe a shot to the engine area could damage a Pzr 3 or 4.

You could always aim for the treads and knock out a wheel too. Also, the M95-Barret can penetrate the glass on choppers, planes, and the Hummvee so I think they could skin that kind of penetration onto the rifles easily. (EDIT) Whoops didn't see the above post, my bad.

but in a real tank if the driver is shot it doesn't kill the whole crew. In BF the player represents the whole crew, so if the "driver" is killed the whole tank is knocked out. This is unrealistic and makes the gameplay suffer. Killing a tank as infantry was and still is very rare. Infantry AT weapons are basically there to make the soldiers feel better. In total they probably contribute for less then 10% of all knocked out tanks. In BF they account for at least 60% except on maps where no one plays as infantry.

You could also immobilize the tank or making it unable to fire, like if the the driver or gunner/loader was killed...
