Oddball_E8oh man, dont hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning.

Yeah, so sad to see flaming early in the morning. The guy asked a question, you can answer it politely. And as to these being the FH forums, so what? That doesn't give you the right to flame.

pesci_fanu dont have to flame me you fucking dickwads, and if the b-17 was used for carpet bombing, then what in the fuck was the Nordon-bombsite for? You fucking flammin assholes :curse:

First off lets try not to let this spiral down into a flame contest.

The B-17 was not intended for carpet bombing. It was designed for precision bombing. The USAAF idea was for a formation of B-17's flying very close together in a concentrated force and drop all their bombs together to bomb a target. They were Strategic bombers intended to bomb refineries, aircraft plants, factories, ball bearing pants, etc.

According to the USAAF training films the heavy bombers equipped with a Norden Bombsight were said to be able to bullseye a pickle barrel from 20,000ft. That is why the US flew precision daylight bombing missions despite horrific casulties and the RAF flew mostly nightime area bombardment raids.

In WW2 the US bombers using the Norden bombsight had a CEP (Circular Error of Probablility of 1,000ft. Compare that to a F/A-18 Hornet with a CEP of 70-100ft.

When the US Army was held up like in the bocage area they decided to use heavy bombers flying at medium altitude to carpet bomb a path through the German lines. That was the beginning of Operation Cobra. It was used a couple of times in Europe to break through strong German defenses.

In 1991 during the Gulf war the US used B-52's to come in low and drop IIRC 60,000lbs of Mk 82 Snakeye bombs that blew a path through the Iraqi defenses and minefields

I think hte maps are too small to conduct strategic bombing. And the Lancaster and B-29 arent in game yet.

Who said that?

C38368Every last one a carpet bomber? Ever seen footage of the bombing of Monte Cassino by B-24 Liberators? Go watch it sometime, and then tell me that they were engaged in carpet bombing.

When the RAF flies the Germans duck. When the Luftwaffe flies the British duck.

When the USAF flies . . . . . EVERYONE DUCKS!!!
