Hi Diddley Ho,
there've been some suggestions on requiring (yay!) recovery or repair vehicles to fix borked tanks on the field or to tow them off, if possible.
If something like this is done, how about having vehicles in sort-of-but-not-too-deep water not explode, but rather just splutter and die, and require towing out? Same with sandstorms--I know desert military vehicles had sand filters, but afaik they still tended to break down on occasion.
Or would that be too much of a PITA to keep track of?
I know, not high priority, but would still be fun to see.
I dunno. Kind of sounds like a pain and I doubt anyone would want to drive around a tow truck the whole round. It would also be a big bummer to drive a matilda II clear across a map only to have it break down 3 miles away from the action.
I doubt there even are any maps that are 3 miles wide. But yeah, as long as you would get points for towing destroyed or broken down vehicles, i think i would be doing that sometimes. Mmm, i'm imagining the sdkfz 9 Famo struggling to pull a pzIV out of the mud. *drools*
There are maps up to 4 miles wide, it's the highest used size by the editors but who knows, you can set this value in maps code files so it might work with even bigger. Anyway 4x4 are all sea maps and tehre was Fall Gelb map submited to the map pack. Unfortunately it's Conquest mode and some other parts were very buggy and no one seemed to have enough time to fix all of this.

Not 4 miles, 4 kilometres. And as of yet no one has managed to make such a big maps for BF2...
Well, yes. Sorry it's 4 kilometers wich is a bit less. Anyway I didn't meant Battlefield 2 maps, only 1942.
I have trouble seeing anyone take the time to tow a vehicle which they or someone else just ditched in the water. Why bother? You'll get a new, shiny vehicle at the base soon enough anyway. Would be fun to see but I don't think it would be used enough to make it worthwile to develop.
Yeah. It might be easier just to blow the vehicle up then tow it any where. Random break downs could also be really annoying. And I'm sure the tankers here would have a fit.
i guess it depends if AFV's are set to respawn. what if each team only gets the vehicles they start with? now its important to protect them at all costs. lose them and the other team can savage you with their tanks. im not a big fan of respawning AFV's. except in the biggest of tanks battles that involved large numbers of tanks. more then what can be used at any one time, by a 32 man team. so you respawn them for when some are killed, too simulate it been a bigger tank battle. few tank battles were this large though. battles IRL are generally decided quickily one team kills the other, and its over. respawning soldiers are fine to simulate more troops involved in the battle. but how many tanks respawn, if any?, should be at a rate that reflects the true battle, imo. so to fit this into the topic, repairing and towing AFV's could be a key factor in a setup like this, if it were employed.
'[5thLupin']I dunno. Kind of sounds like a pain
Speak for yourself.. A lot of people love to do support missions such as myself
