Im sure someone has asked before, and i looked but i couldn't find anything on it. but is it me or does the bullet impact sounds, sound like the 4rth of july snap caps? u know the little spitball looking paper balls that u throw at the ground or anything hard and it makes a snap/crack sound. Is there some reason there isn't real bullet impact sounds, and ricochette sounds from actual guns, like in about every other war game in the world, not to sound sarcastic here but im just wondering what was the reasoning, and please dont tell me that its the engine limits as they dont sound that way in BF2, unless im deaf.

Because thats what it sounds like when a bullet hits at a certain direction near you. It cracks. Also the bullets do make ricochet type sounds. It depends on what it hits.

Although depending on distance you might not hear it. .308 for example at 600 meters has bled off enough speed that it crosses back into subsonic and thus they don't hear anything, just see someone drop.

Does that happen in game?

They arnt impact sounds. They're the sounds of bullets flying past your head. The 'cracks' are tiny sonic booms, like a whip crack.

i really dont like "real gun impact sounds and bullets passing by ur head", as some games has, they ALL remind of the crappy sounds effect on the old James Bond movies when he gets shot at -.-

The article is very interesting. This guy mentiones a lot of stuff which I would love to see implemented in future games. I just guess, that the main problems are the limited speed of todays computers and internet connections. Besides this, it certainly costs a lot of money to develope such a detailed game. Therefore I hope that the budgeds of major computer games will soon reach the size of blockbuster movie budgets. =p

The problem of slow computers could possibly overcome with a cloud computing aproach for games. The game could be run on a VERY powerful server which would only send video-and audio- and streams to the players and recevied a "control"-stream from the player. The server would be financed with monthly fees. If I was a billionaire I would start a company to develope such a system. :smokin:
