I had a thought, just to throw out here into the lions den. Maybe for FH2, the devs would throw thier mods' clans a bone by making vehicle skins for the divisions involved on the appropriate maps. I suppose it'd be a minor detail really, just an insignia, but it could be really cool for us who've been with the mod for so long.

Well a layered texture would be nice so that all maps show the correct insignia's (if they were used for that matter) though i don't see how this relates to clans since it most likly would be set my the mapper, and clans generally play on one side so you dont need logo's to identify clans. Now having clan logo's on vehicles would mean potential abuse (people using swastikas, offensive material etc.) so i wouldn't vote for that if even possible.

No not clan logos. The real divisional insignia that some of your FH clans used during the war. The insignia that actually got painted as identifying marks on the machines. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. So sorry. But since the vehicles are given divisional insignias anyway I just thought, why not if the map fits?

Wouldn't this mean that every type of vehicle would suddenly need far, far more skins than previously? Would make a huge mod even bigger.

heyyy, i did that for my clan, the 21st panzer division i made a custom texture pack with the 21st markings on all the tanks and a bunch of other custom skins and sounds...yet its only for private clan use

Exactly, but I should have been more clear on the clans based off real divisions and not just any clan like the Ass Hatters or something.

The insignia skins could be made on seperate planes (faces not connected to other faces) on the outside of the hull. Each vehicle then has an additional 256x256 texture with correct insignia, instead of a full 2048x2048 makeover.

Potentially the insignia of Waffen-SS divisions could be made, as few have swastikas in their insignia. e.g 1st SS-Panzer - 1_SS.gif

My upcoming Anzio Beachhead map should feature unit/tactical markings on most of the vehicles... I've also done a new version of the StuG IIIG skin with Monte Cassino markings for Lili Marlene's map. cassino_42.jpg

Exactly, though all the logo's probably would be at a lower detail then 256x256 pixels and most insignias would all be in one single texture file (see billboard texturers in bf1942 en bf2 for example). It is one of those tiny details that adds a lot to the game in my opinion. If i fight at I want to see the logo of the 9th SS Hohenstaufen and 10th SS Frundsberg. :D
