Righty-o Safe Keeper. I own only one map pack and that's #6 due to thats the only pack being played, and I started FH just after the release of #5. In fact, I havent played all of the maps on that as the servers I play on dont have them. I REALLY wanted to play Soletschnogorsk-1941 (the russian train obj map), and the new Midway, but my fav server, WOLF doesnt play them due to bugs (they loved them too). And I dont want to play with the stupid bots, it's too easy/they wont complete objectives (at least on BF42:SWoWW2). I know Bad-Seed fixes some of the maps, but if they were official they have a lesser chance of being bugged (I think) and he wouldnt have to fix them. (He helped WOLF make Saipan Conquest instead of Push, and tried to fix Reinesbung's ship-ramming-into-buoy-crash-server bug).

Just out of interest - what were the bugs with the mappack maps? I was playing my map (Cretan Village) on TDP a couple of days ago (they seem to be the only server that plays it) and one of the admins said that the maps were buggy because they required higher PC performance.

And yeah, I agree with Johannes' points - it would be nice to see mappack maps included in the next main release, maybe after som bug-fixing etc.

Johannès I think maps chosen for the official fan mappacks should be, in the next official FH release, incorporated into the official FH maps.

'GameArena' is the only aussie serve to host FH and they almost got rid of it. After our hard campaigning, it was kept, but they have taken so long to incorporate map packs, inluding the recent MP-6. I think they feel less players will join the server if they have to download all these extra files. Johannès' idea would remove this strange concept as everyone would have to do it anyway just to play. Nice work

Well, I don't think it really matters if it's that buggy. Valirisk usually crashes everyone on the server...

Wow, what an igorance.

I wonder if they really didnt notice that the Mappack maps pushed BF42´s engine to the limits. Those maps are just stunning in Graphics, sounds and details. Its 2006 out here, and people cant expect to run those mappack maps with 99 frames as does the old vanilla omaha beach.

So, tho slower performance you get on those maps is just because the system requirements are a little higher, not because of any bug. Anyone who says that, just has no clue.

I havent encountered that. Or the thing with Cretetian Village. Probably was someone whining about low fps. Let me tell you the mother of all low fps maps was the WaW Ortona map. It looked great, but boy! 5 fps at one flag, 10-20 at the others:eek: . It was the most demanding map I've ever played. But later it started speeding up for some reason:lookaround: . But really some of these fan map packers have awesome ideas that should have been in the official release (can you say Lilliput, Tulagi, and Nuenen, etc.?):naughty:

Edit:btw this is @foodmaniac

I missed that battle :( It's funny you should mention that map though - it was in the last mappack (5).

Well, fan map packs are really from fans for fans. Because the quality is generally lower than in FH, I don't think adding them is a good idea. However, FH does not want to turn down excellent maps, and as you have already seen with the last mappack some mappers have been made devs and all mappers have been made beta-testers. So if you have a good map, submit your work to the dev team and we'll definately have a look at it.

I'm not sure about the quality of previous mappacks (having not tried them), but #6 was of a quality that I considered on par with the stock FH maps. In some cases I found some of the maps better than some similar maps in FH. For instance, I thought Fall Gelb was a much better map than Counterattack (more even-sided as well as the inclusion of many vehicles that weren't in Counterattack), as well as enjoyed Cretan Village a lot more than the original Crete. Of course, I understand the official stance on them, but I kind of would still like it if mappack levels were kept in so that some wouldn't ever be lost. Again, I really would have liked to play Ortona (Canadians!) but never had the opportunity to, and since the last release its existence on servers has essentially vanished, as with all the other mappacks. I'm sure there are others who have favorites that were played and then simply vanished.
