I know a lot of things are addressed in the current stickies (IE: "Yes, Pz III is in. No, the Maus is not."), but it's kind of a pain to search for specific features and functions that definitely ARE in.

Things I can think of that're probably common questions:

1.) Will bolt cycling (a la RO) be in the game? Is it even possible under the code?

2.) Will there be a crosshair? Will conefire be in like in BF1942 or will the bullets go where your barrel points like in RO (and the barrel will sway depending on your condition and positioning)? Will there be iron sights?

3.) What are the planned kits so far for most maps? What general equipment will the kits include (IE: Assault -- knife, rifle, 3 grenades, a St. Bernard, and a bottle of brandy; Medic -- knife, pistol, morphine, weed, rolling papers; etc.)?

4.) What armies are planned currently?

5.) Will squads be like in BF2?

6.) How will artillery work? Will there be a commander mode?

7.) Will there be an anti-basecamping code on some/all maps?

8.) Will regular infantry have parachutes (I'd assume not)?

9.) BF1942 had a really clunky range system. Is BF2 scaled in the same funky way so that SMGs seem to outrange rifles or are the "best" weapon? Or will SMGs be only really good at close range?

etc., etc., etc.

I'm sure there's plenty of stuff you guys hear over and over again about features and how the game will work, and have probably answered over and over. It'd just be helpful to have a sticky I expect.

I can only tell you the answer to question #4 with any certainty. FH2 is still very much work in progress and nothing is set in stone yet, so anything can change. Any such FAQ would be predominantly guessing.

To prevent suggestions from being made twice people should just use the search function on the forums.

1. McGibs mentioned that the RO bolting system isn't so much a feature but a work around for a problem (with bayoneting?) they had without it. I wouldn't count on it.

2. You'll get an aiming point circle about the size of a dime on your screen in unsighted mode. Sighted mode is ironsights.

3. One can assume the usual. I don't have any specifics.

4. Dozens of armies are planned for "eventually" but Italians and British and probably Germany certainly need to happen for a North Afrika campaign.

5. Short answer: yes. Long answer: there will be some modifications.

6. There's going to be "both kinds" where the commander gets airstrikes or something like that and the old scout and gunner artillery is coming back but the spotter system is going to be totally different.

7. I suppose if they need it and it's possible.

8. 'Course not.

9. SMGs tended to have fairly good range, it's kinda unfair to rifles that FH maps are overly compact and SMGs don't lose power over range. I dunno if SMGs will lose power over range in FH2.

And of course you didn't want to know the answers to the questions, you wanted to see a FAQ put up to answer these for people who don't know and constantly ask again and again. The fact I don't know the answer to about 1/3 of them means a lil more education would be helpful.

I saw the bolting system response. Having played the old version of RO, I can tell you that he's right. It was a drag that you couldn't get out of IS mode to run the hell away when bolting. The bayonet thing can be (and was in RO) solved simply by allowing animations to be interrupted, but requiring them to be completed after the interruption ends. IE: you start chambering, but decide to bayonet instead. Chambering is interrupted, bayonet stabs, then chambering starts again. That's how RO used to do it and it generally worked as I recall (it was a LOT better than the crappy RTR system which basically made bayonets pointless).

Kinda sucks about the circle thing in unsighted mode. I was hoping we could get an infantry system closer to RO. Not because it's new, but because I find it a LOT more interesting a system to play (trouble with RO is that it lacks diversity that FH has). Ah well.

My issue with the FH SMGs vs. Rifles issue is well documented in the older forums. I HATED that aspect of FH. It basically made rifles pointless outside of extreme long ranges, which depended heavily on visibility. It also made them ridiculously overused in v0.6-ish. 0.7 actually seems a good bit better for some reason, though I can't put my finger on it. Maybe the accuracy was changed?

Anyway, SMGs should be generally close combat weapons, but FH2 should include ample opportunity for longer range combat with rifles. The better view distance of BF2's engine should help with this a LOT. Class limits are another option, of course.

Problem with the range thing is that most infantry combat in WWII was at close or medium range. Long range rifle duels were very, very uncommon. Thus the reason the MP44 was developed. It is also one of the reasons that the Garand was one of the greatest rifles of WWII. At close range if you missed you could quickly get off another shot where as a Kar98 takes much longer to reload and is vulnerable in that time to the person he just missed who is no doubt turning to engage him.

Yes, most battles were fought within SMG range (or at least within assault rifle range). BUT most soldiers were riflemen.

It's fine if the maps take place roughly within SMG/assault rifle engagement ranges, but the number of SMGs should be far lower than the number of rifles on the battlefield.

To some extent, this was solved in 0.7 by the limiting of various SMG classes and the presence of armor (and corresponding engineer/faust kits) to make toting a rifle worthwhile, but without some kind of class limit or other drawback to using SMGs, people will whore them as they did in 0.6.

Exactly. Most of the topics brough upo should be in the sticky quoting Gibs on all sorts of features. Other then that I would wait for the FH website to be updated, it should have a new FAQ section I figure (I'm not the webmaster so don't kill me if I'm wrong).

DONITZ WAS WRONG!!!! DAMN HIM!!!! GATHER YOUR PITCHFORKS AND TORCHES, FELLOW TOWNSPEOPLE!!!! :)

Anyway, if it's all still kind of up in the air, that's cool. I was just surprised that (assuming that more stuff had been nailed down) there wasn't a single sticky answering what I expect are common questions.

Thanks for the info, guys. :)
