Pushable guns. These problems don't happen in BF1918 because the guns are never in the same place. Have three or four spawn locations for the guns and then allow them to be repositioned buy the player. Towed for long distance (requires setup time) and pushed for repositioning (virtually no time between stopping and firing). As for MG's there should be more deployable mg kit's (they should also be able to move when deployed although slowly) with three deploy modes (standing, sitting, and prone).
Pushable gun-code would be excellent for small guns like the Pak36, and even medium/light artillery (which was also used in direct fire mode). Imagine moving just around the corner to trap the enemy, behind some rubble, into a small alley, etc. They could become quite lethal, hitting weak points from unsuspected directions. And recoil pushing the gun slightly out of position? just great.
I don't trust my commanders.
Player config or reconfigurable is best. Pushable and towable with special setup time in the beginning for both teams.
I think this presents to much of a problem. Most of the defensive positions in FH have sandbags and trenches around em. Placeing all that stuff either randomly or let the CO decide would make the maps look bad.
1: If the CO can place it anywhere he wants, objects are going to be clipted and messed up when placed in hills, near other objects etc.
2: If the CO can only chose from predefined positions, its not going to be to much of a suprise for the enemy.
The only way to make it truly freely is towable guns.
Commander profiles are a good start, but no plan survives initial contact.
Sure it does. Who needs battlefield flexibility! That's for losers. Losers like you.
Defensive weapons spawning in different places is a good idea. This idea could be used in other places too. Like if we had a corel sea type map, the carriers could spawn in different locations each time.
