Okay here's my suggestion:

You know how you have the AT Rifle, MG and Sniper kits sometimes sitting at a base? And they look like a Boy's Rifle, MG34 or Scoped Enfield? Why don't you make it so that when a player dies (with a normal, spawnable kit) you get a little model of they're main firearm? Right now all you get is a helmet and some pouches left behind, unless they had picked up one of the aforementioned kits.

Why don't you make it so that when a player with the Recon Kit dies, there's a little Rifle and binoculars instead of the helmet and pouches? When a Rifleman dies, a Rifle and a grenade. When an Engineer dies, a Rifle and a wrench. When a Close Quarters troop dies, an SMG and a grenade. And when an NCO dies, an SMG and binoculars.

Let me give you an example how it is right now: You've been exchanging fire with the enemy from behind cover. The guy next to you bites the big one and drops his helmet (WTF, no gun?). A few bullets later, you've run out of ammo. You look around and see three helmets laying within reach. You know that now, because you've stopped firing, the enemy is going to use this opening to do something, maybe charge. Right now, you have to gamble on getting an appropriate weapon from the three hats next to you to stop whatever action the enemy is taking. You pick the hat on the left. (Zelda "Get Item" music plays) You got a...Tank Commander's Kit?! How are you going to repel an infantry rush with a pistol? Not to mention why the hell a tank commander was lying next to you in a trench, but that's a question for another time. You choose another hat and get an SMG, just in time for the enemy to stab you in the face with his Bayonet. See the problem?

This system (different weapons depicting different kits) was how it worked in FH1, why did you change it? Anyway, thanks for listening to my little rant. I never know how to end posts that don't offer an answer to a question someone else posted, so I leave you with this:

Good point. However, knowing BF 2 oddities, there's probably something that stops devs from doing this.

No, there's nothing stopping it, and I noticed recently that different kits DO have different dropped things. The British ATR guy has big pouches and a helmet while the Rifleman has rifle ammo pouches and a helmet.

Does the helmet change? If a German wearing a pith helmet dies, does a pith helmet appear over his pouchy thing, or just a stahlhelm?

So why not just drop the whole damn gun (and an accessory to differentiate between the kits with the same main firearm)?

We dont have low poly models for all the kit weapons yet. So helmets and ammo bags are placeholders.

Ok cool, so it was a compromise to release it earlier? Awesome. Are the low poly model planned for future releases?

It sure sounds that way. Which is definitely good news.

yes, they should all look like the sniper rifle, ATR, and LMG kits eventually.

Fun fact: In betatesting, all the british kits were Rad's teddy bears with helmets.
